interview with Chemicide

How is it that you started playing music? I started listening to a lot of punk bands very young like ramones, the clash dead kennedys and black flag but mostly because I liked their ideology and that their music was so simple but one day, one of my best friends gave me a CD that changed my life forever: Sepultura – beneath the remains. And after that I was 17 picked up the guitar and decided to have a thrash metal band
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
Frankie Chemicide – Vox/Guitar 25
Sebastian Chemicide – Lead Guitar 25
Jerry Chemicide – Bass guitar 38
We don’t have a drummer right now but on this album Nash from Catarsis Incarne helped us with the recording
Have you had other previous members? Yeah we’ve had 2 drummers and 1 bass player
Did you make music even when you were young? When I was young I didn’t make much music mostly because I didn’t know how to play an instrument but I used to write lyrics on my spare time
Where are you from? The happiest country in the world: Costa Rica
What year did the band form? 2008
What's your style of genre? Thrash metal
What inspires you? It depends on what’s happening in my life at the time; but even if it sounds cliché I write music to try to help change people’s perspective about our world and life
How often and where do you rehearse? We practice twice a week 3 – 4 hours a day in a studio nearby
How have you developed since you started with the music? We have improved our skills because when we 1st started I just wanted everything to sound raw and fast and as time went by I started to think of the band on a more “professional” way so our sound and image was better
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Sports mostly! I like football, Skating etc anything sports related
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We would love to have an agency that can help us financially on the distribution of our record and touring mostly
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? It depends on the deal they make ya… it could either work for ya or against it
What made you decide to make this music? I really don’t have an idea why, I just loved the speed and violence of their lyrics and the message these bands were trying to send
What are your songs about? They are about social issues around the world and our country. Injustice. Civil Rights etc…
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? I do it all lyrics and music
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? If I have  an Idea already of how I want the sound I write the lyrics after but most of the times lyrics com 1st
Do you compose in a certain environment? No, I just write at home or at work
Have you done any covers live? Yup, Sepultura Inner Self
What language do you sing in? English
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? The least 3 or 4 and the most 100
What ages are most of your concert attendants? 14- 15 to 50
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We play the album and maybe 1 cover
What was your first gig like? It was great even though our sound sucked and that we were extremely nervous
What was your latest gig? It was on 2013 before we started to record
Have you had to cancel a gig? Fortunately no
Where have you played live this year? We haven’t played live because of the lack of drummer
Where do you plan to gig the coming year? We’re trying to go to USA and play some shows in NYC and Los Angeles
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We’re putting out the physical record and some t-shirts
Where can people buy your merchandise? They can buy it through bandcamp or by sending us an email
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records nowadays? I don’t mind.. it’s a pain for the artist because we put a lot of hours of recording out of our own pocket but what we really want is for people to listen to our band and come to our shows
How do you think the music industry has changed because of this? It has changed big time because artists don’t make much money on CD’s but at the same time it has helped the artist look for an independent way to record and sell their stuff
What do you think of my work? It’s great that you’re giving small bands like us a chance to showcase their work in Europe
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? Well I hope that it helps us find someone that’s interested on bringing Chemicide to Europe
Do you have any role models or idols? Joe Strummer from the clash because of his performances and that he was always into his fans and trying to make something positive for this world and Dimebag because he was the best guitar player that has ever lived and he changed music forever
Why do you think that they exist? They were here to change our lives and the way we think of music
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Well, older bands just their old records mostly and there are a lot of new bands killing it like Violator Evile Gama Bomb so you have a plethora of choices
What have been your biggest obstacles? That people don’t think of music as a way of living
What advice would you give other bands or artists? To stay true to their believes and don’t give up
