interview with Overwind
How is it that you started playing music? All Overwind members are professional musicians. Each of us started practicing music since school years.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
Alexander – vocals, violin, keyboards
Anton – guitars
Sergey – drums

Have you had other previous members? No, we haven’t.
Did you make music even when you were young? Yes, we started playing music since school years in other projects.
Where are you from? Krasnodar, Russia
What year did the band form? Overwind was founded in 2013
What's your style of genre? Our music combines several styles – power metal, progressive metal, heavy metal. We call it modern metal.
What inspires you? It can be anything. But first of all it’s every new show, a new album and good reaction of fans
How often and where do you reherse? At our live shows we try to do our best to play high quality material which you can hear on the CD. It requires some training from us. Therefore the number of rehearsals depends on readiness of the band to a certain concert.
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Yes, definitely. But anyway they all are related to the playing and writing music
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We work with the local promoter at the present. But we are interested in collaboration with other agencies! We are ready to consider any offers
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? We work with two European labels at the present. M&O Music (France) is charged in sale of our first album and POWER PROG (Germany) will release our new one.
What are your songs about? Our songs are about many different things – mystics, fantasies, love, space, criminal and social problems, but, probably, the main theme of our lyrics is a place of ordinary man in this world with its problems and difficulties.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Usually we start from some music pieces, riffs or melodies.
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? Have you done any covers live? We have an idea to play the cover of a song of our favorite band, but it’s only an idea yet.
What language do you sing in? English
What ages are most of your concert attendants? It’s very different – from 16 to 50
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? Usually we prepare a complete program, but sometimes we can play something special for the audience in different cities.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? Yes, there are a couple of clubs in our native city where we play very often
Have you had to cancel a gig? Yes, there was an incident when we had to cancel the show. We went to the club where the concert had been scheduled, and suddenly our car broke down. As a result, we did not have time to get there. It was annoying. We hope fans treated it with understanding.
Where have you played live this year? This year we played in different cities in Russia. Also we had European tour. So we visited Slovakia, Czech Republic, France and Germany.
Where do you plan to gig the coming year? We plan Russian tour at spring and European tour at summer.
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? At our shows you'll find T-shirts, stickers, badges, magnets with our logo and CDs.
Where can people buy your merchandise? All merchandise you’ll find at our shows and albums you can download from Amazon, Google, iTunes.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? We would like people to buy CDs and download music from popular services for money. It is not expensive, but remains forever.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? Due to the fact that many albums you can download for free, the music industry has changed for the worse. Of course, the information field became wider thanks to the internet and its free opportunities. But at the same time for musicians it’s much more difficult to make money. Even the recording of the album is an investment of money. Now musicians mainly earns on tour, but not on sales of CDs as it was before.
What do you think of my work? We support your work! This is a good opportunity for meeting new bands.
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? We hope much more people will know about us.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Both. Now we got a lot of great bands that play good music. But there is something to learn from the older bands.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Follow your dream, play a good music and don’t forget your roots!
