O. Gelfuso, 28 – Guitarist.

Where are you from? Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo – BRAZIL

What year did the band form? 2007

Have any of you played in other bands?

Yes. I’m (Ivåder) a former member of DARK DIMENSION (Symphonic Black Metal) and CULT OF DAMNED (Death/Black Metal). I played guitar and sung in both;
Goehrnis played guitar on AGABAHAN and CULT OF DAMNED;
O. Gelfuso is a former member of DARK DIMENSION and CULT OF DAMNED too;
Have you had other previous members?
Yes, we had. Solrac (Rhythm Guitars 2007 – 2015), Vorj (Bass Guitar 2007 – 2009) and Rattnaroth (Vocal 2011 – 2012).

How is it that you started playing music?

 I started in the end of 2002. I won my first guitar and then I started guitar class with my friend. After some years, I founded Dark Dimension, which lasted until 2007.
In 2007 I started to play drums accidentally, since then, I playing drums on Lusferus and other projects like KROATON and DARK INSPIRATIONS (an O. Gelfuso’s project).

Did you make music even when you were young? Yes, since 2005 I play in bands and writing music.

What are your songs about? Is about freedom.  Since ‘Black Seeds’ we care about the deliverance of closed mind to the path of obscure wisdom.

What made you decide to make this music?
In my opinion, Extreme Metal is the better way to externalize esoteric feelings and creates obscure sensations in the music.

What inspires you? Nature, occultism, and ancient history.

What language do you sing in? We sang in portuguese in the past, but no more. Since “Black Seeds ov Obscure Arts”, we sing only in English.

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Me (Ivåder) and Goehrnis, but Mütt and O. Gelfuso are so important to “personify” that.

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? Not necessarily. I care about the spiritual moment which I living at the moment of composition.

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Always music. Me and Goerhnis think that lyrics are like the personality of music, therefore, it comes after the “body” is formed. Each song deserves it’s own personality.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today?
Definitely we have no prejudice against new bands, but our influences are from the past, like: Emperor, Dissection, Hypocrisy and At the Gates basically.
How often and where do you reherse?
Every week on a friend’s studio called ‘GARRAFÃO’.
What was your latest gig?
On February in our city. An event called “Carna Rock” (something like “Carnival of rock”). Now, we looking for the next gigs with KRISIUN and LUXÚRIA DE LILITH (a traditional Black Metal band from Brazil).
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary?
We prepare a setlist according to situation. It’s very hard to see us playing the same setlist.

What are the most people to attend one of your gigs? Actually, I don’t know hahaha. I think people who like to listen melodic and technical songs in the context of Extreme Metal.

Have you had to cancel a gig? Fortunately, never.

Have you done any covers live? Yes. We played some songs of Immortal, Dissection, Marduk and Enthroned.

What have been your biggest obstacles? Especially the lack of support. In Brazil is very difficult to have a metal band. In here we don't have many fest  dedicated for this, therefore, is very hard to play with frequency .

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? I think this people lose the opportunity of live the fullest concept of music. Listen to music following the booklet, is one of most important piece of this art.

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? I would be hypocritical to say that there were no changes in the music industry, especially in sales of CDs, but I think we should adapt to new reality.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that?
Yes, I think if we play in different countries, will the better way to proliferate our art. The energy of shows is very powerful. In the shows is possible transcend and feel the real intentions of the band.

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? In 2007 with our first demo “Luciférico Hino”. Now we have for sale our two full-length released: “Black Seeds ov Obscure Art (2013)” and “Desolation’s Theme (2015)” as well as official t-shirts too.

Do you have any new material? Yes, we do!  In the end of last year, we released a new album, “Desolation’s Theme” and it debuted among the “250 best albums of Latin America”.

What do you think of my work? It’s very important! Your work is the connection of people who like to know new bands around the world. And under look of musician, you provide a chance to show our work to people who don’t know it yet. You have all my respect for that.

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? I think this interview will be an way to show our work for other people who never heard about us before.

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? On music context, I’d like to put Kroaton (my other band) on the road soon.
