interview with Zombie Frogs

Have any of you played in other bands? Absolutely! We have all played in different bands of all different styles through our younger years but they never got as far as this one!
How is it that you started playing music? We all found that music helped express feelings we had a hard time expressing otherwise, and also
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? Zombie Frogs is made up of Lucky Cerruti, 21, on guitar, Sam Reti, 22, on guitar, Lucas Lalonde, 22, on bass, and Andreäs Etxeberria, 26, on keys, and James Kneorl as our studio drummer.
Have you had other previous members? We have had some members come and go. We have replaced members on keys, bass, and drums.
Did you make music even when you were young? Of course! We all started playing our instruments at a very early age.
Where are you from? We all come from different places but the band is based out of Boston, MA
What year did the band form? Zombie Frogs formed as a four-piece band in the fall of 2012, but we evolved into a five-piece band with the final lineup in the winter of 2013.
What's your style of genre? We play instrumental progressive metal.
What inspires you? We all draw our inspirations from so many different things. I think that’s why our music is so interesting. We bring all of our inspirations in to our music to make it something very special.
How often and where do you rehearse? Wherever and whenever we can! It’s difficult being so spread out most of the time but we make it work.
How have you developed since you started with the music? We have all grown as songwriters, as musicians, and as performers.
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? If music doesn’t work out, we all want to become Pokémon trainers.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We would love one eventually. We aren’t actively looking for one at the moment. It would have to be the right partnership.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Again, we aren’t actively looking, but it would have to be the right match.
What made you decide to make this music? It’s the music that we want to hear. It’s that simple. We do it because we love it!
What are your songs about? All sorts of stuff. Love, friendship Frosted Flakes, you get it.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? We all contribute to the writing process. It’s very much “songwriting by committee”. We all bring in riffs and try to make a song out of them. If something doesn’t work, we scrap it. It’s really great when it goes smoothly.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Well since we don’t have lyrics, we start with music.
Do you compose in a certain environment? Anywhere. Anytime.
Have you done any covers live? Not yet! We’d have a few ideas though…
What language do you sing in? Silence
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? We’ve played to a few hundred people, but we’ve also just played to our parents. It’s very humbling.
What ages are most of your concert attendants? Mostly ages 17-30. Mostly always men.
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We try to mix it up. We will be playing lots of new stuff live that we have never played so that’s very cool.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? Not really. We’ll play anywhere that’ll have us!
What was your first gig like? Our first gig was in the attic of a restaurant. It was all of our friends from Berklee where we went to college. It was a party.
What was your latest gig? Our latest gig was in Worcester, MA and we opened for the Australian band Twelve Foot Ninja. Crazy show.
Have you had to cancel a gig? Unfortunately yes. It was in the middle of our member change situation. We hated to have to do it.
Where have you played live this year? We haven’t. We are just coming out of a pretty long hiatus. We will be playing live in 2017.
Where do you plan to gig the coming year? EVERYWHERE!
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We started selling shirts after our first album, “Awaken”, came out. Now we have three shirt designs, CDs and wristbands.
Where can people buy your merchandise? https://zombiefrogs.bandcamp.com/merch
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? I don’t mind it. It’s nice to be able to put your music directly online and have people all over the world listen to it and download it.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? I think it’s just the evolution of the industry. It gives bands a more direct connection to their fans. There is also the issue of piracy. Which is a whole other thing. It’s crazy
What do you think of my work? I think it’s great to interview bands and give them a change to promote and just talk about stuff. I think it’s great.
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? It will potentially give us exposure to lots of people. Which is always good.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Both! We love so many bands from different eras and styles. Why limit your inspirations.
What have been your biggest obstacles? The member changes for sure. We have lost so much momentum from losing members. But I hope we have it right this time.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Write and play what you love, not what you think people will like. You’ll find your audience and it will be much more rewarding when you do.
How do you get psyched for a gig? Listen to Disney soundtracks and Katy Perry. Seriously.
Do you have any new material? YES!!! Our new 4-song EP called “Multiply” comes out this December.
What are your web sites?
How can people reach you? Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. Say hi we’re very friendly.
What are your plans for the future? Write, tour, repeat, take over the world. The usual stuff.
Do you have something to add? Thanks for the interview!
