Interview with necroroots
Have any of you played in other bands? yes, we are four member in the band, three are in the same band and the other has his own band apart.
How is it that you started playing music? well, when i was 15 years old my parents bought me an acoustic guitar, it was my first instrument and from that day i started playing
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
esau: bass guitar (live).
Olimpo: drums.
Josue: guitar and vocalist.
julio: second guitar.
the official members of the band are olimpo and josue, together we make all the music and lyrics.
Have you had other previous members? yes, esau, olimpo and me josue are members of the death metal band "bloodknot"
Did you make music even when you were young? we started playing cover songs of nirvana, korn and other bands, it was very fun but we decide to try to make our own music, its more fun.
Where are you from? we are from a very litle city called Techaluta de Montenegro in Mexico. we are the only metal band of the town.
What year did the band form? NECROROOTS started the las year 2016 in march,we are very new band
What's your style of genre? NECROROOTS genre is black metal, but we like to say "old black metal" because we try to keep the "old" magic of this music and create an atmosphere of darkness in all the song we make.
What inspires you? the music of NECROROOTS talks about society, nature, ocultism,mitology, night and religion, we give our opinion of that themes, also we are very inspired in bands of the same genre like gorgoroth, satyricon, darkthrone , 1349 etc, our music keeps the style of the old black metal school of norway in the begins of the 90'
How often and where do you reherse? all Saturdays, we try to reherse.
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? yes all the members of this band haves, esau and olimpo are students, me (josue) i'm a informatic engineer and julio is a biology scientist
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? yes we are searching, we want to play in shows with more frequency to make the name of NECROROOTS important
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? in this moment no, we trying to make more independent music for the moment only.
What made you decide to make this music? because black metal makes me feel free, i liberate all the emotions i have when i hear this kind of music, its so satisfasing to expres my vision of the world wiht the lyric and this music. also because theres no other black metal band in the region.
What are your songs about? The lyrics are about of religion, society, mythology, occultism and night, our own perspective of how we see the world in each of the songs, we want to send a message to free our minds from those who dominate us day by day
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? olimpo and me (josue) , we make all the music and i make the lyrics. it's a good process of creation
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? first we make the music and then i put the lyrics in the song, i think its more easy this way.
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? jajaja yes of course, i like to go to the forest in the night to make the lyrics,its very inspiring feel all wind and noises of nature. this atmosphere helps me for write black metal musi
Have you done any covers live? we try to play our music live, but maybe in the future some cover will come.
What language do you sing in? our mother lengauge is spanish, but our music is in english, We do it because we want our music to be heard in countries other than our own
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? maybe some 100 or 150.
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? in this moment we play the six songs from our coming EP, the songs are called, the chosen one, walking alone beyond death, third person, legions of death, night visions and burning skies.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? a certain place no, changes very regular.
What was your first gig like? we open the concert for one important band in mexico called "all misery" the people does not expected a black metal band, and that makes it more fun see the attention of all the people
Have you had to cancel a gig? Fortunately no, for the moment.
Where have you played live this year? white necroroots no, but with my other band we play last week.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? the times are changing a lot, in the past people bughts cds from they favorite artis, i think it was mor cool, because you can listen wiht more atention the entire record, and now you can download some songs from an album ,for me that steals magic from the record.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? is changing a lot , for some reasons is good because are more platforms to share music .
What do you think of my work? excepcional!!, It helps a lot to bands like us that need more attention from the public.
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? Is a very important advertising tool, I have faith that it will help us grow as a band
Do you have any role models or idols? of course we have, models we call bands, like satyricon, darkthrone, burzum, gorgoroth and other bands inspired us to make this kind of music, we dont copy them musically, we only copy they emotions when they are playing and for me that is an idol.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? We find more emotions in the older bands than in the bands of the present time, At present everyone wants to be very technical when it comes to creating music and we dont like so much that
What have been your biggest obstacles? find the perfect places to give a concert.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Never stop to do what they really like, no matter what musical genre it is, always give the best, and remain supporting all the music that surrounds them
How do you get psyched for a gig? hearing music the morning of the gig helps to centrate for the show and watching live videos from my favorite artist.
Do you have any new material? the upcoming EP called "NECROROOTS" in the following weeks we are going to release it, is our debut ep and we are very pround
