interview with Hyperdose
Have any of you played in other bands? I (Justin Mattea) and my brother grew up playing in a band called “Distal” and “Signum A.D.” thereafter. Ben Rivera played in a band called “Decypher”. Clint has played with many bands including the current rock group “Aranda”.
How is it that you started playing music? Me and my brother’s mom asked us one day “Would you like to play an instrument”?...it was as random as that haha and we kind of took it from there.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?

Have you had other previous members? This is the current and only Hyperdose lineup ever!
Did you make music even when you were young? I believe around 14 years old was when we started trying to create music!
Where are you from? Ben Rivera is from and currently resides in Lincoln, Nebraska. I and my brother and Clint are from the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma area. What year did the band form? 2015 What's your style of genre? Rock/Active Rock/Metal
What inspires you? I am inspired by God, by other bands, and by any and every experience that we encounter every day!
How often and where do you rehearse? The rehearsals have been somewhat unorthodox due to being in different locations. We all spend several days a week creative material that we work on collectively and collaborate on.
How have you developed since you started with the music? We are getting to know more of our depth together as we continue to enter the studio. We started out with one single almost without knowing each other at all. Gabe Aranda also performed on our single “Take Control”. On our next ep we were able to discover different characteristics and dynamics that we were capable of!
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Ben has been in the Medical coding field and has investment interests. I and my brother have been working as accountants but music is all of our main interest and passion!
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Yes. After the completion of our next EP we will be looking for booking agencies/Labels as we will be venturing into the live show portion of our project. We are also looking forward to radio campaign as well.
What made you decide to make this music? Me and my brother had just exited “Signum A.D.” and were thirsty to continue our writing and pursuit of the music life. Ben had approached us with interest of starting a project and it turned out to be a great opportunity for all of us.
What are your songs about? Most of our songs are about dealing with everyday ups and downs of life as well as the hope that we can receive from relationships and spirituality.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Me, Blake, and Ben truly work together to compose and arrange the songs. Justin Rimer has also played a big part in our sound. Ben writes most of the lyrics.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? We come up with concepts/moods and that leads to the further developments of the songs and really helps them come to life!
Do you compose in a certain environment? We are all night owls so we all try to be inspired by loud guitars and passion in vocals. We try to live out the music from our feelings about relationships or any daily issues that we encounter.
What language do you sing in? English only so far but who knows what the future holds!
Where do you plan to gig the coming year? We hope to play in the Central United states area along with many of the Rock Music Festivals going on this year.
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? You can check out our website www.hyperdosemusic.com where we have many T-shirt designs for sell. We also have physical copies of our E.P. “Impact”, for sale along with digital copies!
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? Anyway that we can get out there and introduce new people to our music is definitely very helpful and with your expertise will definitely be a good thing!
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? We feel inspired by many bands in our genre today because we feel we relate more to them. Although, there are many older bands that continue to inspire us.
What have been your biggest obstacles? Living in different cities is an obstacle but not one that we can’t overcome!
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Take your time to prepare and produce your work. Do not rush just to get music out in a hurry. Make sure it is something you are proud of it will be worth the time.
How do you get psyched for a gig? Monster and Red Bull!
Do you have any new material? We have a lot of new material we have been preparing for our new EP!
