interview with Punition Babek

Have any of you played in other bands? All Punition Babek’s members have a large musical background. We played in several music projects from  folk rock to extreme metal. I can mention Frozen Tears, Stoneblizzard, Maldita Sociedad, Raze, Aweless, Red Sky, etc
How is it that you started playing music? Like every teenager, dreaming. I want to be a rockstar!
What are your names? / Who plays what?
Well, I am Alessandro Fantini and I play bass guitar and yell something in the backing vocals
The other guys are:
Roberto Chimentelli,drums.
Marco Gianfriddo, guitars and backing vocals
Antonio Mastrosimone, lead guitars
Giovanni Casulli voice
Have you had other previous members? Yes, our first axeman, Fabio Docci. We really miss him. And Stefano Pollio, another guitar player who left the band some years ago.
Where are you from? Florence and its surroundings, Italy
What year did the band form? The first lineup was born in 2008
What's your style of genre? We love to call our music “heavy thrash metal”,
What inspires you? Everything. A movie, a book, some tv news. No one can imagine where the inspiration come from.
How often and where do you reherse? One time per week in a studio, in this period we have a sound engineer who helps us.
After that at home, during the weekends.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? We are working on the second album and… yes! We are looking for a label! What are our thougths about them? They are fantastic if they produce our album!
What are your songs about? Our new songs talk about human madness and nihilism.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? It’s a team job. Marco composes the basic riffs and Giovanni the lyrics. The others works on the harmonics, structures, backing vocals and so on.
Have you done any covers live? A lot! Slayer, Overkill, Testament, Amorphis and many others. Nowadays we don’t do it. It’s better to promote our material.
What language do you sing in? Our first album, “The Prisoner Within” was in English. Now we have some songs in Italian.
What was your first gig like? It was a rock contest in Prato, many years ago. A big stage with a stunning light show. No publicity was done and there’s no crowd. What a pity.
What was your latest gig? It was two weeks ago, here in Florence. A mass! Good sounds and feelings.
Where do you plan to gig the comming year? Everywhere in Italy and Europe!
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? Out merch is available, just contact us! Now we have only the first album and some t-shirt. With the new one relase we’ll have new t-shirt and patches and, may be, some surprises!
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? It’s an error especially in case of underground bands. Better listen a lower number of band and help them buying their records.
Help underground metal!
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this?
The labels don’t sell enough records and use live music as the only way of profit and they changed their economical politics. In Italy a single concert can cost over 80 euros plus a pre-sale rate and the tickets are sold via web in few hours.
Read the Italian newspapers about what happened to the last Colplay concert. Is it possible?
Next summer Guns’n’Roses will play in Bologna and a single vip ticket  cost over 1000 euros. This way will destroy our music. We must do something, boycott this foolish economy and help the new generation of underground musicians.
What do you think of my work? It’s a good blog, carry on!
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? Any kind of publicity can help! We need visibility and internet is the perfect place, so reporters, bloggers, videomakers are welcome!
What have been your biggest obstacles? All day life. Our jobs, families, health and other problems gave a big stop to our music work.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Be yourself. Always.
What are your web sites? We don’t have a web site, we work on Facebook, Instagram and Youtube.
How can people reach you? Write us on the Facebook!
What are your plans for the future? Finish the new album and a big tour. After that I don’t know. May be conquer the world.
Do you have something to add? Thank you and see you in the moshpit!
