interview with Across The Stars

Have any of you played in other bands? Of course, the guitarist also plays in NordWitch (blackened death metal), and the bass player plays the guitar in Inferno (sympho / gothic metal).

How is it that you started playing music? Across The Stars is a family project in which the brother of the frontwoman plays the guitar and her husband on the bass guitar. And since both are musicians with a great experience, we just somehow met together and decided - why do not we make an excellent joint project?

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?

Innesa Kapitun – singer, lyrics writer — 29 y.o.

Maksym Vityuk – guitars, composer, arranger, sound engineer – 34 y.o.

Dmytro Kapitun – bass, manager – 43 y.o.

Have you had other previous members? No, we did not have other musicians.

Did you make music even when you were young? Oh sure. We will play, even when we are a hundred years old

Where are you from? We are from Ukraine. And by the way, Swedish metal is very popular here!

What year did the band form? The idea arose many years ago, but it took some time to create the songs. In 2016 we began to rehearse.

What's your style of genre? It is officially considered that we play symphonic modern metal, but the band does not limit itself to style. In our music there are industrial, power, progressive and death metal styles.

What inspires you? We are inspired by the desire to create really interesting music: melodic, but heavy, with powerful orchestral parts, heavy riffs, melodic solos and beautiful vocals.

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Yes we do. In the band there are very active people, we have many different interests, including those not related to music (I will not write that we plow on fu**ing works))))

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We are pleased to consider proposals for cooperation with the booking agency. Write to us, let's talk!

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? To date, the band is working on material for the debut album. This work is already at the stage of completion. And, when the material is recorded, we will definitely look for a label that will publish our album.

What made you decide to make this music? Because we like it. And we are sure that this music will appeal to a lot of people, so it's worth bringing it to as many listeners as possible, many of which are sure to become our fans!

What are your songs about? Our texts are very diverse. In the songs of the forthcoming album, one can find arguments about the unknown expanses of space, undivided feelings, social problems ... We believe that writing an entire album about one thing is boring, although often such an approach is considered conceptual.

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Maksym is creating music. He arranges songs, writes cool orchestrations and performs the role of sound engineer. And the lyrics are written by Innesa - our front-line lady :-)

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? We begin to write music. And only then, when the track is completely ready in its draft version, Innesa listens to it an infinite number of times - and writes the lyrics about what it associates with this music.

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? Inspiration can come in the most unexpected surroundings. Therefore it happens in every way.

Have you done any covers live? No, we do not. We play only our own music. Perhaps someday we will perform some cover, but now this is not planned. We want to create, not to replay someone else's.

What language do you sing in? All our songs are in English. This is an international language, and we want to bring our creativity to as many people as possible.

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? We never count the number of people who come to listen to us. Sometimes a few dozen people under the stage with their activity can create excellent support.

What ages are most of your concert attendants?  People come to us for concerts of different ages. Most usually from 16 to 25 old, but at concerts are often present uncles with large gray beards, as well as their grandchildren!

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? Since we have a variety of music, we are invited to various festivals. The concert program is usually prepared depending on the format of the festival: after all, if for one audience it is worth playing more balad songs, then on some festivals it is better to perform something high-speed and heavy.

Do you have a regular place you play live often? We play in different places. In our country there are not so many concert halls and open air places, and we regularly play practically at all.

What was your first gig like? It was an original concert: the organizers decided to organize a festival on the motor ship. As a result, we got a 5-hour music cruise on the Dnieper River.

What was your latest gig? Very good. Four musical bands played before us, the sets were long. It was felt that the people were already tired. We went on stage at 10 pm and thought that people now could not support us. But while we were tuning, people had time to rest, drink beer, and already on the first song, everyone was under the stage. It was really cool!

Have you had to cancel a gig? Luckily by, no. It used to happen that we were forced to abandon the offer to play because some of us performed on this day in another city with another project. But if we agree on participation in a concert - we definitely play!

Where have you played live this year? For our band this is the first concert year, so we managed to play only in several cities of Ukraine. Next year there will be many more concerts, because there are already offers and we are negotiating with various concert organizers.

Where do you plan to gig the comming year? We plan to take part in several major festivals, as well as present the album and give several concerts in its support in different cities of our country and beyond. We are open to suggestions to speak!

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? All our future merchandise so far exists only at the level of ideas. But in the near future the situation will change. If in 2017 year our main task was to start an active concert activity - and we started it - then in the 2018 year will necessarily be both merchandise and much more!

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? You can download music in different ways. When it comes to pirate sites, where the stolen content is shared and downloaded - naturally, we treat it negatively. But you can download music legally and for symbolic money, and many bands spread their tracks for viewing on their sites, specialized resources or in social networks.

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? Of course it has changed! And in many respects for the better: it became easier for performers to sell their music. If earlier it was necessary to invest money in CD circulation and there were difficulties with promoting albums outside of the country, now each band can put their albums on iTunes, bandcamp, and a number of other resources and sell it all over the world.

What do you think of my work? It's very cool that there are people who create such projects as http://ghgumman.blogg.se - after all, such resources allow bands to acquire new listeners! Thank you for your work! We wish the blog further development and success!

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business?

Oh sure. The more people know about the band, the better.

And we believe that after this interview

we will have more fans, to whom we are always happy and for whom we create our music!

Do you have any role models or idols? No, we do not have idols. There are performers, whom we listen and respect and that certainly influenced our work. But we do not imitate anyone.

Why do you think that they exist? If some band has idols - maybe they just are not ready to create their own music yet, without copying anyone. At the initial stage of the band's existence it is not so bad, but there are not many prospects for such performers.

What have been your biggest obstacles? Everybody has problems.

What advice would you give other bands or artists? The main advice is to learn how to play quality and create good material. Today, a lot of bands, and to succeed, you need to play very well. Having created the band, you should not immediately storm the "big stage" and hope for world success. Play around the small clubs for as long as you need to play, get a concert practice and learn how to play concerts as well as rehearsals.

How do you get psyched for a gig? Even the most experienced musician worries before the concert. It's quite natural - I want to perform qualitatively, not to upset the people who paid for the ticket and came to the concert.

What are your web sites? We are present on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Today it is more important than creating your own website. We plan to make the site in 2017 year already.

How can people reach you? The best way is this email address: [email protected]

What are your plans for the future? We will record albums, perform as much as possible, we will work on new material and promote our band on the would stage.

Do you have something to add? Your questions made it possible to convey enough information about our band! We just want to thank you and everyone who finished reading for the attention to our band again
