interview with stoma grindcore

Have any of you played in other bands? Yes! our guitarist has played in synovectomy and also in cotedaver. Our drummer has played in numerous bands througout his career. most notable Aversion a oldschool hardcore band. 

How is it that you started playing music? Loving music, listening to music a lot. Want to be like those guys that or screaming from your speakers. And then you just start picking op instruments and go.

Have you had other previous members? Yes we had some line up changes, mainly in the guitar department. Shit happens. 

Did you make music even when you were young? Not really just noise...screaming and such haha. But if you mean young as in 18 or so, yes we did. we started making music in crappy school like bands etc.

Where are you from? Heerenveen, Fryslan, Netherlands

What year did the band form? 1998

What's your style of genre? Grindcore

What inspires you? ''ofcourse'' porn, but also more serious matter like politics and serial killer shit. :)

How often and where do you reherse? at the local music factory, it is actual called that in frisian our native language. Musyk Fabryk. we try every week,  but due to the fact that we are quite busy with work and grown up shit. mostly it is every other week.

How have you developed since you started with the music? On a personal level we have developed majorly since starting with music. Nothing compares to being on a tour or doing a show. Meeting a lot of people, social interaction. having fun. HELL every shy kid should be forced to start a band. As a band we try to stay true to te core. no nonsene grindcore.

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Interest not really, obligations though... 

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? no. none really. we only play when asked, that works for us. sometimes a couple of times a year sometimes many times a month.

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? nope we have one. Bizarre Leprous

What made you decide to make this music? Common interest in extreme metal.

What are your songs about? ''ofcourse'' porn, but also more serious matter like politics and serial killer shit. :)

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? no one really. mostly a riff comes up or a idea vocalwise and we create a song around it. 

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? music mostly. 

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? yes.. beer invested smoky rehearsal rooms.

Have you done any covers live? yes many, gut, regurgitatie, napalm death....

What language do you sing in? grind..... just kidding, english mostly. some german here and there.

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? played midnigt shows for 10 and festivals for 1000

What ages are most of your concert attendants? 18-30ies

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? try to vary

Do you have a regular place you play live often? Not really we play everywhere when asked to play.

What was your first gig like? awesome, not anxious or anything we just did it.

What was your latest gig? At our rehearsal venue haha. at the new years party.

Have you had to cancel a gig? yes, due to illness a show in switzerland a couple of years ago. sadly.

Where have you played live this year? our hometown new year party.

Where do you plan to gig the comming year? we dont plan anything. just play when asked... But we are playing Grindhoven festival this year with Gut, my minds mine, sublime cadaveric etc etc.

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? Since we had i guess.... some shirts at the moment with the artwork from our split with necrocannibalistic vomitorium. and our full length cds are some left.

Where can people buy your merchandise? from us. at numerous distros rottenrollrex bizarreleprous. etc.

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? i understand the convenience of downloaded music. but we, i, and shouldnt we all appreciate the value of a physical copy.

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? It got easier and to make and promote music. music is easi;y made in one sunday afternoon and uploaded on the internet. and there is always someone outthere who digs it. but if thats a good thing....

What do you think of my work? awesome. less and less people are really into music, contacting bands and interviewing them.

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? i think and hope that people will be encouraged to explore other extremer kinds of music.

Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Inspiration can come from anywhere.... so both ways are possible!

What have been your biggest obstacles? none really, we play when being asked too.....

What advice would you give other bands or artists? be yourself. do your thing. do/don't be an asshole.

How do you get psyched for a gig? The journey towards it, most of the time we have to spend hours driving together to get there. AND ofcourse....BEER!!!

Do you have any new material? We have a couple of songs ready but not a full length worth of material. Some shit is coming out in the near future.

Do you have something to add? we are lazy as fuck. hell. we answered this interview a year too late. but we are just some hardworking guys with jobs, no lowlife crusties with time on their side. and we really appreciate that quality gals like robex lundgren are taking the time to contact bands and are promoting the underground scene.
