interview with Wan

Have any of you played in other bands? Yes all of us have been and still are in other bands, not gonna do any namedropping though.
How is it that you started playing music?
That happend so long ago for me so I´m not really sure why, but I guess it`s because I started to listen to heavy metal
and something woke up within.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
WAN is: Tsjud - Vocals, Drægg - Drums, Skoll - Bass, Isengrim - Guitar
Age is not importan really, the passion for the thing we do is.
Have you had other previous members? Yes, we have had a few previous members. Aganaroth on guitar who also was one of the founding members.
Dimman and Draup on drums.
Did you make music even when you were young? As long as I´ve been playing I have made music.
Where are you from? We are from Eskilstuna, Sweden.
What year did the band form? WAN was formed in 2009
What's your style of genre? Old school blackmetal
What inspires you? Life, or the lack of it. Other bands to some point.
How often and where do you reherse?
Generally we rehearse once a week, more before a show.
Our rehearsal place is a shitty little room in the outskirts of Eskilstuna.
How have you developed since you started with the music? We haven´t, if it aint broke, don´t fix it.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Actually, yes we are. It´s damn hard, next to impossible to get any gigs these days. And with some help that would hopefully
get better.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Not at the moment, we are very pleased with our cooperation with Carnal Records.
What made you decide to make this music? It just came to us naturally, and we wanted to bring back the old.
What are your songs about? They are about what we stand for and who we are, and our neverending crusade against christianity.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? We compose the music all together and Tsjud writes all the lyrics.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics?
Well, since Tsjud is more or less always writing lyrics I guess you could say that we start with them, but that´s not really true.
We just make the music and he then selects the lyrics that are best suited for the song.
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? Always in my home studio Hammer Regime.
Have you done any covers live? Not yet, time will tell if we ever will do that.
What language do you sing in? Swedish and english.
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? Least, around 5. Most, around 60-70 I belive.
What ages are most of your concert attendants? Over 18 I would guess since we mostly play at clubs with age restriction.
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We try to vary, but there are certain songs that our fans expect us to play.
What was your first gig like?
It was pretty much chaotic since me and the current guitarist got arrested the night before it.
We almost had to cancel.
Have you had to cancel a gig? Not yet, and hopefully we never will.
Where do you plan to gig the comming year?
We have a few dates coming up in Finland in june, and in Stockholm 15/6.
More is brewing though.
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale?
After the release of our first album "Wolves of the north"
T-shirts, patches, pins and of course all our releases.
Where can people buy your merchandise? By contacting us directly.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days?
With the advancement of technology it´s just a natural step in my opinion. The bad part is that small bands like us
loose sales. But most people I know still buy the records even if it is available in digital form.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? It´s a mix of both really, but it was more straight forward in the older days.
What have been your biggest obstacles? Getting gigs to be honest.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Just do your thing regardless what people say.
Do you have any new material? Yes, we will release a MCD entitled "Gammal är äldst" this summer. 5 tracks of drunken metal mania!
What are your web sites?
www.facebook.com/theunholywan
www.soundcloud.com/pentagramrockers
www.youtube.com/theunholywan
How can people reach you? Either by contacting us on Facebook or sending an e-mail to [email protected]
What are your plans for the future?
Nearest plans are going to Finland to play some gigs together with Cavus, and as I mentioned before, Stockholm.
Other than that, start the pre-production of our 10 year anniversary album. And of course get out on the road as much
as possible.
Do you have something to add?
Thanks for shown interest in WAN!
Keep the underground alive and support the smaller bands.
Cheers!
Isengrim on behalf of WAN
