interview with Coyote Man

Have any of you played in other bands? Yes we have.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? Ian Wheeler (drums), Agustin Portugal (guitar, keys), Terry Lee Jones (Bass). We’re all in our early 30’s.
Where are you from? We are all from Chicago, Illinois.
What year did the band form? 2015.
What's your style of genre? Prog Metal Rock
What inspires you? Life in general. Being alive.
How have you developed since you started with the music? We expanded with different song structures and we try to mix other types of music. Experimenting is usually key. Different effects, sounds etc.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We are not looking per se. We have more of a DIY mentality for the time being.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? It’s cool if labels show interest but we still are doing the DIY. Times are changing with being on a label in general. A lot of bands are independent and we really appreciate that freedom.
What made you decide to make this music? Ian and Augie have been playing in bands together since high school and we broke it off a few years ago but always kept in touch. Back in 2015 we decided to get together again and jam out to see if the grooves were still working. We started to make different sounds that we never tried before so we kept on writing and before we knew it our first album was made. Terry came in a little later after our other bass player left for family reasons.
What are your songs about? They have no particular meaning since it’s instrumental. It’s however you look at it though.
Have you done any covers live? Not with this band yet but in the past we have in our other projects.
What ages are most of your concert attendants? Newborns, fetuses and corpses. It’s all one big love fest. (Hahaha)
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We mainly play the songs on our only album at the moment but we are working on new material that will be brought to the live stage sooner than later.
What was your first gig like? DZ Fest in Hickory hills - 2015. Great crowd.
What was your latest gig? Reggie’s Rock Club with The Security Project(members of Peter Gabriel and King Crimson).
Have you had to cancel a gig? Thankfully no.
Where have you played live this year? Mainly in the Chicagoland area and the surrounding burbs. Soon to play in other states.
Where do you plan to gig the comming year? Hopefully Midwest and west coast.
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We have t-shirts, stickers, pins, posters and CDs for sale.
Where can people buy your merchandise? www.coyotemanband.com and at any of our live events.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? It’s more convenient and it gives less known artists more exposure. It’s a plus even though buying records is still great too.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? Harder to make money but bands mostly make money on the road now more than ever.
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? Any exposure is good exposure.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? All in all older bands and some of the bands we have played with.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Come original.
How do you get psyched for a gig? Beer and cardio.
Do you have any new material? In the process of new material.
What are your web sites? www.coyotemanband.com. We’re also on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
How can people reach you? [email protected]
What are your plans for the future? Touring and new album.
Do you have something to add? Add us, like us and we hope to see you at our future shows.
