interview with Exact Division

Have any of you played in other bands? We have. Serge is playing in Dimicandum [https://www.facebook.com/dimicandum.official/] and Roman is playing in Pomsta [https://www.facebook.com/pomstaband/].
How is it that you started playing music? We gathered together at school in 1992. Our band named "Exile" those days.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
Serge Smetana - guitar&vocal - 41 y.o.
Roman Zhbadynskyi - bass - 41 y.o.
Max Lobanov - guitar - 41 y.o.
Aleksei Panov - drums - 41 y.o.
Have you had other previous members? Nope. This is our first and the only team for as much as 25 years.
Did you make music even when you were young? Sure. See above
Where are you from? Kyiv, Ukraine
What year did the band form? 1992.
What's your style of genre? Heavy, Thrash, Metal, you name it.
What inspires you? Music, books, movies, nature, people... Everything that surrounds us.
How often and where do you reherse? We play at JonCofy base [https://www.facebook.com/JoncofyBase/] in Kyiv once/twice a week, depending on upcoming shows.
How have you developed since you started with the music? We are learning constantly - playing, promoting, giging...
Do you have other interests of work outside the band?
Sure. You cannot make money from rock music in Ukraine.
Three of us are working in IT.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Yes we are. We are looking for a booking agency in Europe to make shows outside Ukraine
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Not for now. We already have contract with Ukrainian label Nocturnus Records
What are your songs about? Everything. What you see (think) is what you sing about 
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Serge does composing and writes the lyrics
Do you start with the music or the lyrics?
It is different from song to song. One time you start with the music,
then you start with the lyrics, and sometimes it comes all together
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? No. It comes from everywhere 
Have you done any covers live? Yep. Usually we perform one cover per show.
What language do you sing in? We sing in English. Ukrainian kind of English.
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs?
Depending on location we play at. It could be 20 people at small club
or thousands people at big fest.
What ages are most of your concert attendants? Between 15 and 50
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We have a lot of songs in the list so we vary it depending on show.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? Yes. We did a lot of shows in Kyiv Barvy club [https://www.facebook.com/barvyrockclub/]
What was your first gig like? It was a school concert with a lot of teachers and school director. And it was a disaster :)
What was your latest gig? It was at Rockstadt Extreme Metal Festival in Romania and it was great! :)
Have you had to cancel a gig? No, we hadn't. We try never to dissappoint our fans.

Black Sea Metal Festival in Ukraine
Carpathian Alliance Metal Festival in Ukraine
Rockstadt Extreme Metal Festival in Romanina
and a tonnes of gigs in local clubs in Kyiv
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale?
We have started to sell merchandise this year.
We have CDs with our EP and new album and t-shirts with our EP, single, and LP covers prints.

We working on adding merchandise section to our site.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? It's a fact of life. We have nothing against them.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this?
It have changed dramatically. Now musicians have to perform live shows to make money
because very few people buy albums on CD or vynil. People (most of them) listen
to the music in digital (online or downloaded).
What do you think of my work? We respect music enthusiasts
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Pf-ff... Wrong question! :) Inspriration is a strange thing and it depends under
vary circumstances. Not only music and not only older or modern bands.
What have been your biggest obstacles? We're ourselves are the biggest obstacles for us.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Never stop trying!
How do you get psyched for a gig? Brandy and beer!
Do you have any new material? Yes we have. We are working on a new album.
