interview with One step from the Edge

Have any of you played in other bands? Our singer Alex Seretis was a member of prog death band "Semic Stains" and then of the band "Crowdance". Alex Pregou was a member of "Soundless Echo", Kostas Tsapos was in "I have seen" and Kostas Pourgiazis was a member of the power metallers "Everdome" and then of "Nomen Illi Mors". Maria Mosxeta also plays in a rock band.
How is it that you started playing music? We all love music and we are fans of rock and metal. Apart from listening to our favorite music we also felt the need to create our own music and started composing our own tracks
What are your names? / Who plays what? /
Alex Seretis, vocals
AlexPregou, guitars
Kostas Tsapos, guitars
Kostas Pourgiazis, bass
Nick Stakas, drums
Maria Mosxeta, keys and programming
Have you had other previous members? There were a couple of previous members that couldn't stick with band due to lack of time or interest
Did you make music even when you were young? Some of us started composing songs since we were teenagers
Where are you from? We are all from Greece and we live in Ioannina.
What year did the band form? One step from the edge were formed in late 2016
What's your style of genre? The sound of the band is a mix of many different musical genres. There are elements of technical thrash, the heavy American sound, metalcore and from other metal and rock genres
What inspires you? Anything! Everyday life, anything that happens in the world, every experience, every feeling may be an inspiration for music and lyrics
How often and where do you reherse? We usually rehearse once or twice a week in a local rehearsing space.
How have you developed since you started with the music?
When you are young you have more free time to practice and improve your technique.
Our younger members have the time to practice more. However we all try to progress as musicians in order to play the music we like.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Anything that helps you promote your music and reach a wider audience is good for the band. At the moment we have just released our first album and try to see how people react to our music.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Since we are in the beginning we saw  that only small labels would be interested in us. We had a few offers but we thought that these labels wouldn't give us the promotion we wanted. If people like our music and our first album does well we may see if we can get a better offer in the future.
What made you decide to make this music? We try to play the music we like. We like different styles of metal and rock and try to combine our influences in really good songs with feeling, groove and power
What are your songs about? The lyrics are mainly about personal, social, political and economic issues, such as the reality that exists today, as well as society in general
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Our singer Alex Seretis wrote most of the music and all the lyrics for the first cd. Guitarist Kostas Tsapos also contributed equally in the composing of two songs. However all the other members had the freedom to change and improve their parts adding their ideas and personal style in every song. We are planning to work more as a team for the tracks that will be in our second album
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? We always start with the music
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? Ideas for tracks may occur anywhere!
Have you done any covers live? No! We only play our songs till now!
What language do you sing in? In English!
What was your first gig like? It was in a small club. Our singer was really ill, had a sore throat and had to take medicine in order to be able to perform! However when the show started the band forgot everything and played with enthusiasm and the crowd had fun!
What was your latest gig? We played with Into the Basement in our home town, Ioannina.
Have you had to cancel a gig? Nope! We never cancelled although in a couple of shows some of the members were sick!
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? There is nothing you can do about that. However it is more and more difficult for bands to find money to record their music and this may lead them to stop. Bands have to find other sources of money.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? The fact is that less albums are sold. I think it is still early to evaluate what will happen.
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? i guess that interviews are helpful due to the fact that people get to know more about the band
Do you have any role models or idols? All of us have. All the members of the band have some band or artist that they admire and look up to.
Why do you think that they exist? Mostly because as musicians we admire the work of other musicians.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Any band would do the job as long as you like what they do.
What have been your biggest obstacles? The hard part is to cope with all the expenses of producing a cd
What advice would you give other bands or artists? I think the best advice is to never rest and compromise with what you currently have. Always work for the best for you and those around you.
Do you have any new material? We are currently working on new songs but nothing is ready yet.
How can people reach you? Through our facebook and instagram acount (@osfteband)
What are your plans for the future? Individually we are working on getting better as musicians but as a whole our dream is to keep doing what we do and  have fun with it.
Do you have something to add? Thank you for this interview. Thank you for the support! Stay meNtal!
