interview with Laterath

Have any of you played in other bands? Everyone of us have others projects where we play. Laterath is our main, of course, but some of us are playing in Dumbo Station, Ingranaggi della Valle, Lion's Wave, VEMM, Deep Trio, Valentina Polinori, and many many others.
How is it that you started playing music? Me and Davide founded Laterath almost 6 years ago. We moved togheter from a small city in the south Italy to Rome for creating this band and studying music.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
Davide Savarese (24) - Drums and backing vocals
Antonio Coronato (24) - Bass
Stefano Rossi (24) - Bass
Daniel Mastrovito (24) - Keyboards
Corrado Filiputti (28) - Guitar
Francesco Sacchini (25) - Voice
Have you had other previous members? Yeah, a lot. In 5 years we changed a lot of members, because we were searching for the perfect ones. After all this time, maybe we foun them!
Did you make music even when you were young? Yeah, we all started to play since we were teens.
Where are you from? Rome, Italy
What year did the band form? I think 2013, but we passed a lot of time to search for the right members. We found Francesco, the last one, in 2017.
What's your style of genre? I don't know. People say that we are like "post-progressive".
What inspires you? The bad moments, I guess.
How have you developed since you started with the music? We developed a lot. We try to make a step forward every song. If you could listen to our firsts Laterath's songs you could be shocked for how much we changed!
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that?
Actually, yes, but it needs to be worth it. Booking agency are great, but most of the time they steal money and you get almost nothing.
A booking agency should earn money from the cachet of the gigs that it finds, but in Italy you need to pay before they start working, and we dont like this.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Yes. We released an EP (called "Anemone") by ourselves, that is going pretty great, but we would like to release our first album with a label that truly believe in the band.
What made you decide to make this music? We didn't "decide" to make this kind of music, it  comes out naturally.
What are your songs about? Every song is different, but most of the time we talk about our bad life's moments, so we can get over it.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? We write music togheter, but ost of the time Francesco and Davide write the lyrics
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Most of the time we start with the music, but the approach to every song is different.
Have you done any covers live? Yeah, once we did "Resist" from TesseracT
What language do you sing in? English
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? I don't know ahahahah, but most of the time when we play in Rome is sold out
What ages are most of your concert attendants? I think from 20 to 35.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? Yeah, we lovr Wishlist Club in Rome. Great sound and great people!
Where do you plan to gig the comming year? We don't know yet! We're searching for gigs, but without a booking agency is pretty hard!
Where can people buy your merchandise? At our gigs or on bandcamp at this link: https://laterath.bandcamp.com
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? It's a very complex argument. I can just say: if you like an artist BUY his record, merch, or whetever you want, especially if he is emergent, or he will must stop making art for paying bills, and you'll lose him.
What have been your biggest obstacles? Finding people that want to believe in a dream like you do.
Do you have any new material? Yeah, we're working on our first album!
How can people reach you? Through Facebook, Instagram or email at [email protected]
What are your plans for the future? We're searching for a great label, and we want to release our first album.
