interview with Black Circles

Have any of you played in other bands? Nordi: I'm involved in another side project these days, but Black Circles will always be my 1st priority! Hardy: I’m playing as a featuring artist at some other projects. Zymos: I’m playing right now at another band too, called Xenovenus.

How is it that you started playing music? Nordi: Everything started back in 2010 or something when I was in a music store and for no actual reason; I bought Slipknot's Disasterpieces DVD and felt in love with Joey's drums! 2 years later I bought my first drumset and everything went downhill from there… Hardy: It was the touch of God, I knew right away when I first listened to the song “So Far Away”, by Avenged Sevenfold. SP: Because of the feelings and the vibes that music brings. Zymos: I don’t recall exactly, I just always knew that I wanted the rockstar life since I was a kid. Captain MG: The truth is that The Captain sold his soul to Lady Art at his early years, as he started piano & theory classes of Classical Music before he was even 10, before moving on at his 20s to guitar classes and self-taught ukulele. What a genius!

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? Drummer: Nordi, almost 24. Bassist: Zymos Garixon, 19. Lead Guitarist: John Hardy, 20. Rhythm Guitarist: John SP (a.k.a. Locomondo), 18. Vocalist: Captain MG, 25.

Have you had other previous members? We had about 4 members throughout our history.

Did you make music even when you were young? Nordi: Well, I was mostly just hitting things until my 20's. Zymos: Around 15 years old.. Hardy: Me too. SP: One year ago for me.. Captain MG: For me it only happened through the lyrics.

Where are you from? We are all from Athens, Greece!

What year did the band form? It officially formed in 2017.

What's your style of genre? Hard Rock/ Metal .

What inspires you? Nordi: Leaving something back like a heritage to this world and the dream of becoming famous, so as not to have to work again a single day in my life. Captain MG: Nature. All of the pure, blissful & beautiful creations of momma Nature, along with random personal energy vibes coming up from emotional states through everyday life. Hardy: It’s all about the feelings. SP: When facing a spectacular view in the outside world. Zymos: Yeah, feelings, politics some times, the World..and the Mustache of J. Stalin.

How often and where do you rehearse? We rehearse every week at a studio called Stereo Voice.

How have you developed since you started with the music? We started playing some ballads and Hard Rock tunes, but now we are mostly chasing the Metal Style along with different genre mixes.

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Some of us study at different Universities and do part time jobs, so as to help the band!!

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Yes, a booking agency wouldn’t be a bad idea, as it could give us more opportunities to play our music live in a lot of venues.

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Of course, who doesn’t?! Getting out there and shooting high, is the only way that we can pack up some damn sacks of money and the backstage sofas with some hot chicks!!

What made you decide to make this music? We don't really know it just occurred. That's a side reason actually, as to why we don't have a particular music genre of rock that we stick to, since we play whatever comes to our mind.

What are your songs about?

Right now, they are mostly love songs and some that try to spread influential

messages to the world.

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? We all contribute to the composing part, and we mostly leave the lyric part to our vocalist, cause the Captain is the poet of the band.

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? First we think of the music of each song, and then we think about the theme that it could go around of and then we end it up with the lyrics.

Do you compose in a certain environment? Nordi: I have a weird habit; I get mostly inspired when I'm at work. Probably because I hate that place and random things keep coming to my mind all the time! Captain MG: As I said, Nature has to be somehow present. Apart from that, why do you think we are called Black Circles?! We usually give birth to music novels late in the night, while hanging next to owls, cats and vampires… SP: Don’t listen to them. Inspiration comes everywhere! (All looking at Locomondo à Laughing Our FAO :D)

Have you done any covers live? We did some covers of various artists at an acoustic live session last week, ranging from R.E.M. up to Prince and to some Greek Rock bands.

What language do you sing in? We sing in English.

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? The least people who have attended our lives are 50 and the most were about 250..

What ages are most of your concert attendants? From about 16 years old to 20's and beyond.

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? No, we tend to vary, as we often play singles that we haven't yet released.

Do you have a regular place you play live often? No, we prefer to chase opportunities and play everywhere in or outside of Athens.

What was your first gig like? Probably laughable, but at the time we felt like some kind of underground retarded rockstars haha..

What was your latest gig?

We played at the famous “An Club”, which is the oldest Rock Club of Athens and our

Stage Performance, we could say that overall was close to excellent. Or at least we hope so!

Have you had to cancel a gig? We haven't ever canceled a gig; we try our best to improve ourselves, even if sometimes the conditions could be considered as “Hell”.

Where have you played live this year? We have played Live at “Black Box Methodia” multiple times, at “Remedy Live Club”, at “An Club” and at some bars on acoustic sessions.

Where do you plan to gig the following year? You know how it goes, right?! “The more, the better...”

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We started selling our Merchandise at our live acts, which are custom edited T-Shirts.

Where can people buy your merchandise? We sell them at our Lives and of course as legit pirates when someone sends us a message in Social Media, hand to hand.

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records nowadays? As long as they download our music too, they should feel proud! At the end of the day, Music is like oxygen; it should always be free for anyone.

How do you think the music industry has changed because of this? They industry, at least in our country, is now giving a clear push to the live shows, which are indeed “shows” with all the meaning of the world and not just some random folks playing their instruments on stage. That's better in our opinion; it’s more artistic, as it combines different versions of Art.

What do you think of my work? Work? What work? Who are you?! :P

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? Our dearest bassist Mr. Garixon, told us that you are contacting from Sweeden. You might not know this, but thanks to an online documentary some months ago, we are actually big fans of the Studentflak (oo yes, what better than non-stop partying?!) and since some of our upcoming singles will be party tracks, we want to think that you darling will help us create our first foreign fanbase, so as to share the love, the vibes and the music with our Nordic fellas!

Do you have any role models or idols? Hardy: John Five S.P.: Frank Iero Zymos: Nikki Sixx Captain MG: Gerard Way, Jared Leto, Johnny Depp Nordi: Joey Jordison, Stix Zadinia, Chad Smith

Why do you think that they exist? Simple: they were born to clear the path, so we could walk with style on it!

Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? We all think both, but a little bit more from the old fellas, since after so many years we do have a more spherical view about their choices and their careers. The key though, is to get inspired from both time zones, study, learn and then uniquely take it some steps even further. Evolve kiddos!

What have been your biggest obstacles? Money. The biggest of our problems. Oh, and the fact that Megan Fox still doesn’t know us.

What advice would you give other bands or artists? Be responsible guys, not like us. J

How do you get psyched for a gig? We hold hands, pray and meditate with ethnic shaman vibes, NOT. Haha almost everything that can be drunk or smoked is welcomed!!

Do you have any new material? As we told you, new singles with some party vibes going on are coming up and our Second Album, which will be the first with our new members, is already being planned.

What are your web sites? We are waiting for the proper fan numbers to show up first and then we will add and a website.

How can people reach? People can reach us through: Facebook, page called: Black Circles (BlackCircles16) Instagram, @_Black_Circles & Youtube, account called: Black Circles

What are your plans for the future? To smash the scene and become the solid RockStars of our dreams!!
