interview with The Sunrise

Have any of you played in other bands? Yes, of course, we did; In our town there is a big music reality and we all came from different bands.

What are your names? / Who plays what? We are: Tommaso who plays the guitar and sings, Giorgia who is the lead singer, Andrea who plays the keyboards and also sings, Simone who plays the drum and last but not less important Giulio who plays the bass guitar.

Have you had other previous members? Yes, we had some team-switches along these year but our opinion is that if you want to reach a good team level and constancy you must do some changes and choices.

Where are you from? We all are from Italy, in particular from Chioggia that is a little town in the middle of the Venice lagoon.

What year did the band form? The Sunrise has original been formed in the winter of 2018 by the two original members, one of them unfortunately doesn’t plays with us anymore.

Whats your style of genre? This is not an easy question to answer…Actually we are not totally able to define our genre; but substantially we use to play a kind of crossover between the hard-rock 80’ style and the new modern melodic metal conception.

What inspires you? We are inspired by good music influences and we came from different genres like progressive rock, metal, soul and pop music, from this point of view we are all inspired by each other inside the band and this is the reason why we are not totally able to include our band into one specific genre.

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? So, actually we are managed by our label WormHoleDeath for all the events outside Italy, at this point we’ll say “yes” to your question considering the possibility to have a booking agency for the Italian territory.

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? No, we are not, cause of our partnership with WormHoleDeath is really good and we are so grateful to Carlo and Nat for their support and trust through this path we are undertaking.

What are your songs about? The music we write is about our common life and about all that things that characterize our days like the will to express ourself and the awareness of the life we are living.

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Regarding the lyrics they are written by Tommaso and Giorgia, the general composing and melodic arrangement is managed by the other members of the band all together.

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? Generally we compose our music inside our space, the training room that is a place for us to stay together and to live as a band, in fact we call it the “SunrHouse”.

Have you done any covers live? Yes of course we had, in fact sometimes we want to experiment our interpretation on covers; there are two specific covers that we particularly love: Come Together (The Beatles) and Wanna Be Your Dog (Iggy Pop).

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? Our fan base was basically formed by our friend, like all the bands at their start…Now slowly we are reaching every day some new fans and fantastic people that like our music and the things we write!

What ages are most of your concert attendants? Generally the variety of attendants to our concerts goes from 18 to 50 years old.

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? Basically our set-list is pretty the same since the beginning of this year but we like to manage it and change on the basis of the event we are playing in.

Do you have a regular place you play live often? Of course we have, there are two places in our town that we use to attend and we have established a good relation with the principal, so we use to play there pretty often.

What was your first gig like? Pretty difficult, to be honest, cause of the first time you expose yourself with you music in front of an audience it’s not so easy to manage.

What was your latest gig? Our latest gig was in January and unfortunately we had not the opportunity to do other gigs during this year due to the global lockdown.

Where have you played live this year? As told in the previous answer, we have played live at te local pub were we had the opportunity to be broadcast live on the radio by a national broadcaster.

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? At the moment we are not selling any merchandise, but we will be very happy to do it, it will be real cool to sell some t-shirts or hats etc…

Where can people buy your merchandise? As told before actually people can’t buy any merchandise, but on the website of our label WormHoleDeath they can pre order the Album BrandNewDisorder (out on September the 4th 2020).

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? This is a good question! We think that is all about the globalization and the development of the market; it’s like a sort of “music 2.0” , it’s it not a bad thing to download music, the important thing is to do it legally.

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? For sure the music business has changed consistently, but it’s not a bad thing of course…In 1970 the core business of the music industry was the selling of physical records, nowadays people download music so the main source of profit are live events like festivals, the are reachable and well organized all around the world.

What do you think of my work? We have a big respect for journalists, cause of it’s not an easy work, you always have to be on the run and to be prepared to manage a lot of difficult situations…first of all you don’t always know who you are dealing with.

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? We are always happy to do interviews and to be on magazines, we are really simple guys and this is a new world for us, a new experience, we are trying to be ourselves and to convey our essence through the magazines. We hope this will help us to reach a big fan base and to have the possibility to be an important band in the music scenario.

Do you have any role models or idols? Yes, we always have been inspired by the band “Tool” cause of their way to interpret the timing and the melody, we are also real and true fan of Myles Kennedy and his fabulous voice with AlterBridge and also with TheConspirators.

Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? It is, of course, it is pretty simple nowadays to find inspiration looking for other band interviews or searching for live rehearsals on-line, in this perspective, internet has a predominant role, it is always possible to check every kind of material on-line.

What have been your biggest obstacles? First of all, we came from a really small town and it’s not easy to get noticed; second, we had a lot of difficulties in terms of knowledge to reach a label, it was a long process made out of e-mails, calls, ideas and deadlines.

What advice would you give other bands or artists? Don’t be afraid to be yourself, express yourself with your music and be proud of it.

Do you have any new material? We can’t say too much but yes, we are working on new materials but at the moment we wait to BrandNewDisorder to come out.

What are your web sites? We use predominantly Facebook, Instagram and Youtube, cause of they are the fastest social media with which you can reach your fan base daily with posts, images and video. (link under-here)
