Where can people see you? We try to be active on the web (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram...), it is pretty difficult when you're a musician to spend most of your time on a computer, otherwise we play everywhere. We want to play gigs all around the world and spread our music in everyone's ear. As soon as we have any possibility to play anywhere on Earth we hit the road! And of course a gig is always the best place to meet us, on stage and at the merch stand.
Do you have a web-site? www.hypno5e.com , but our facebook.com/Hypno5e is more active (only because it is easier to use).
What is the name of your best song? It is pretty hard to say whether a song is better than an other, if I had to pick one I guess I would choose "H492053", because it is really different and has a mood of its own. Nevertheless this song is not typical of the band, live we sound much more "metal". So if I had to pick a Hypno5e song which "look like Hypno5e", it would be "Gehenne I, II & III". I like the complexity of human moods, the complexity of feelings, related by the technical complexity of this song.
What kind of music are you into? These days I listen to a lot of Powerviolence like The Locust, An Albatross, Some Girls, Holy Molar... On an everyday basis I'm more into Ambiant or Krautrock: Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Lightwave... Or Grunge: Nirvana, Juliana Hatfield, Helium... Or Contemporary music: Xenakis, Reich, Cage... We all listen to different music in the band, Emmanuel is more into Classical music, Jonathan is more into Metal and Thibault is more into Electro.
Have you been on tour this summer? We never tour on Summer, Summer is for festivals, we sometimes play in this or that festival but never really tour in Summer. There's not much audience at simple concerts on summer days.
Do you have a planed tour anytime soon? We would like to go back to Australia as soon as possible, we plan to tour France in October and Europe in November.
Who came up with the band name? Emmanuel, it was his idea since early teenagehood.
Who writes the songs? Emmanuel comes up with many riffs he did at home and the whole bands constructs the songs. Emmanuel is hyperactive and messy, we help him organize the songs to find unity in each song and on the whole album.
What song do you play the most? "Maintained Relevance of destruction part. 2" We only played one gig without this song, it sounds so good live!
Do you play the same songs at each performance? It actually depends on the time we have, we have a 30 minutes set, a 45 minutes set, a 60 minutes set and a 75 minutes set. When we play a short time we only play the most powerful songs (our songs are long, our 30 minutes set actually counts an intro and 3 songs). The more we play the more the range of our material will be large. For the show to be complete the ideal would be to play an hour and a half but it never occurred yet. Ambient parts take more room in the 75 minutes set, if we could play 15 minutes more we would have time to play some of our electro parts.
Have you released an album or single? We have 2 albums: "Des Deux L'Une Est L'Autre", released in 2007; and "Acid Mist Tomorrow", released in 2012. Both available on our hypno5e.bandcamp.com .
Are you working on any new songs?Yes, all the time. We hope we'll be recording a new album before the end of the year.
