Interview with Mortification

What does the name"Mortification" stand for? Romans 8 V 13- Mortify the deeds of the flesh.
What made you call the band "Mortification"? It fitted our style.
How was the band formed? I, (Steve Rowe) continued Lightforce with Cameron Hall & Jayson Sherlock in 1990 after the Traditional Metal Lightforce I started in 1986 broke up. In early 1991 we changede our name to Mortification.
What made you form the band? Following Jesus & my love of Metal.
Can you briefly introduce your band and who you are?  Steve Rowe- Basas Guitar & Vocals, Lincoln Bowen- Guitar & Andrew Esnouf- Drums.
Where are all bandmembers from?/Who does what in the band? We are all from Melbourne Australia.
What was the ambitions of the band when you started? To perform world wide & we have. The band is 23 years in & we have Recorded 15 Studio Albums.
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Extreme Heavy Metal
Where was your first gig? A big church hall in the suburbs of Melbourne to 120 fans.
Where was the latest gig? Easterfest 2013 Festival in Toowoomba Queensland to 900 fans.
Who writes your songs?/ who writes the music who writes lyrics? These days I write everything.
Who has the best since of humor in the band? Me.
What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? Thrashing Death Traditional Metal.
Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? We love Extreme Metal & our songs are about Salvation through Faith In Jesus!
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? All original.

How old are you? What got you started in music? I, Steve Rowe- 48, Lincoln Bowen- 36 & Andrew Esnouf- 24.

What year was the band started? 1990
How old were you the first time you saw a liveband play? 15
How old were you at your first gig?/Best/worst gig you've played? First Mortification Gig I was 25. Best Gig - Main Stage - With Full Force Festival Germany-1994, with Napalm Death & Entombed.
What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? On hiatus at the moment.
How big crowds do you usually play for? Between 8 & 8000
What are the plans for the rest of the year? On hiatus
How do you get psyched up for a gig?  We turn up, drink Coffee & set up the Merchandise.
What are your goals with your music? To see people come to Faith In Jesus.
When did you decide to go all in for the music?
When I wad 21
Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? OLD BANDS ONLY.
What are your sources of inspiration? The Bible, Prayer & Metal.
What's the first step when making a new song? Pick up my Bass Guitar & plug it in, or maybe have a Lyric Idea,
How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums?  It is stealing & thieves belong in Jail.
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? Classic Rock & Blues
What do you hold most dear?
My Christian Faith.
What would be your greatest fears for the future? I have no fear. My life is in God's hands & so- NO NEED TO FEAR ANYTHING.
When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? Lincoln jumping on me & knocking me over. 
What songs and what years were they released?
I have wrtten & Recorded over 150 songs.
Have you been part of any other projects? My first Band in 1984 was called Humongus Toenail. I played Bass Guitar in my own Traditional Mertal Band Lightforce vfrom 1986 to 1989. Then Bass Guitar & Vocals in Mortification started in 1990. I have a Solo Heavy Rock Band called Wonrowe Vision.
What do you work with outside of the band and the music? Healthy & wellness Business.
What would you do if there was no music? Burp & Fart.
What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? Asked me to sign his prosthetic leg.
How often do you rehearse? Once a week
Where do you rehearse? In a big church.
Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? Blood Sacrifice & Scribe Of The Pentateuch.
What do you feel is the best liveband you've seen? Motorhead

How do you view the musicindurty of today? Sucks generally.
What advice would you like to give other bands? Practice a lot.
What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Me being paralysed. But I can walk & stand, Pain.
What is best/worst with playing the clubs?
If they smell bad.
