Interview with Casti'El
What´s the name of your band? Casti'El
How was the band formed? The band was initially a project with no fixed members. After some time we saw the need to become a real band, and throw some stuff. The band came from friends who had the same goal: to convey a message of reflection with the songs.
Can you tell about your band? Well ... lol ... I can say many things. The Casti'El is a band here in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which had promising growth since its inception. Today we are one of the fastest growing bands in the underground scene carioca and with so much effort and work. I can say that we are workers in search of a dream.
Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? We are all Brazilians, reside in Rio de Janeiro. We're practically neighbors. The living farther is our other guitarist, Dime Santos, who lives in the neighborhood Irajá here in Rio de Janeiro. I (Jason Menezes) I'm a guitarist and Vocal Scream, John Santos - Vocals, Santos Dime guitar Bruno Matileti, Bass, and Rodrigo Diniz, Drums.
What was the ambitions of the band when you started? The idea was to protest in the neighborhood where we live, raising the question of moral and ethical people. We used music as a vehicle of transmission this message. But do not stop! When we stop being just design, we now get a message that all will be to account for his actions some day. What goes around comes around. We are a band with Christian ideals. So take a message of peace and love as well. That was just the beginning. Then we see that music could turn our profession, or rather the dream of our lives. So we started to fight for it.
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Our music is nothing so complex, though well poetic. We like to make a heavy sound, but at the same time with variations of melodies to be accessible to all people. I compose most of their songs. I like to use cryptic language to awaken curiosity in people and they can reflect a little in their lives with our songs.
Where was your first gig? Wow! It's been awhile! Believe it was in Studio B, a concert hall in the neighborhood of Nova Iguaçu.
Where was the latest gig? Not yet ended our tour. How much pro ainda..lol end of year
Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? I write most of the lyrics and music. But Bruno helps me with ideas. Some things we wrote together. Other behind him an idea or theme and we develop letter. After we took for the whole group idea and started developing instrumental.
Who has the best since of humor in the band? Complicated to answer. We are so silly lol
What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? I think being good and bad is something that happens all the time. We are not good at all, not bad at all. Seriously seek to do our best. In life there are things that go wrong by many factors. Depends what you define as a genre. Musical genre? We are an Alternative Metal band.
Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about?
Good. Distinct musical styles We are here. We have almost the same age, but different creations in music. I, when I founded the band,
had the goal of doing something good Nu Metal. We have a lot of influences from bands of the 90s At the same time we enjoyed alternative music, metal, Hard Core and NY
forth. We chose this style cuz like many different styles, and at the same time like to combine these aspects with Metal.
Our music talks about the self, the inner attitudes and differences that revolves around the human being, and how divine assistance can help shape these atitutes.
Write what I live, and do critical starting from the standpoint of what we live.
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? Só compomos músicas autorais. Covers só são para complementar nosso repertório.
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? Yes. We have two albums. An EP called "Quebra - Cabeça" which launched on the web in 2010, and the album "Enquanto Você Dorme" which launched in April this year (2014).
Do you have any clips on YouTube? We have a lively Lyric Video for the track "Bruxismo". We are working on the next webclipe.
How old are you?/What got you started in music? I have 27 years. Started on new music well. Was singing in churches as a boy.
At what age did you start playing? I started playing drums when I was about 5 years. Then I went to the bass, and finally guitar.
How old were you guys when you first stood on stage? I do not remember. I think in 2006.
What year was the band started? In 2008.
Best/worst gig you've played? Do not think I have touched on a worse show. In fact even! We took advantage of all !!
What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? We're still not a great band. We played in the cities and neighboring states. But we have much bigger ambitions. Maybe in Sweden? lol
Where have you played from then till now? In all holes and places you can imagine. Beautiful places and ugly places, small places and big places. With small bands and big bands.
Is it always the same songs live? Not. We played with a varied repertoire. Currently we do some covers like Killswitch Engage, 36 Crazyfist, and we're playing the songs on the album that launched recently.
What has been the best/most promising gig so far? We played on the tour in support of the band Close Your Eyes here in Rio de Janeiro. This event was very good for the band and for the city.
Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? Now we are slowly because we are organizing some internal affairs, has the hard to press, but our schedule is very good.
How big crowds do you usually play for? Do not usually play to crowds.
What are the plans for the rest of the year? Launch our Webclipe and start recording an Official Clip.
How do you get psyched up for a gig? I'm always quiet. I think I've gotten used to the routine of the show. Unless you have a special moment.
What are your goals with your music? Reaching the hearts and minds of people who hear us, and somehow contribute to their lives.
When did you decide to go all in for the music? When she became stronger than me.
Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? I hear everything. The two actually. And many different styles of music. Even the noise of traffic or the train inspires me.
What are your sources of inspiration? The Eternal above all, the life, the people who constitute it, the losses that taught me to start over, the wounds that taught me to forgive.
What's the first step when making a new song?
I like to make the arrangement first. After I do the letter. Sometimes I write little snippets of ideas that I have. Everything together in a melody.
I like to compose a disc from a theme, or point of view. Talk at random and meaningless, is not my profile.
How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? Democratized music. Took some of the domain of major labels. But it made ? the job much more arduous. But at the same time brought back the personality of artist. About low, hear, and if you like, buy.
What would be your dreams for the band? Be internationally recognized would be cool. I think taking that love to do the full support, since it would be a good start.
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? I am a metamorphosis. I like Nu Metal, Hardcore, Metalcore, Post Hardcore, Death Metal, like classic 80s and 90s, like electronic music, folk.
When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? Missing light, they step in my cables. lol
Have you been part of any other projects? Wow! Already touched so many. Today I have the Haven, a part of Casti'El.
Have you been in any other bands? Yes.is the start of everything.
What do you work with outside of the band and the music? Currently working on Art Master Tattoo, as Administrative Assistant and am learning to tattoo.
What would you do if there was no music? I do not know! Life would be very boring!
How important are your fans? Without them my job would not exist. I work for them, for the sake of doing something for them.
What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? The affection for me, already counts as memorable forever.
How often do you rehearse? Today the shows became our routine. But when large vacant spaces between shows, we rehearsed.
Where do you rehearse? In some studios here in our city. We're building a studio.
Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? "Um Passo de Cada Vez" and "Bruxismo".
What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? I think the love for what you do! Money is a result of that love, that will. Or to keep what you love doing.
Do you have any webpages? Yes. Use facebook. We have a website for the band, and use other social media. Leave at the end of the interviews the links.
Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? Study! Use your time well. Invest in knowing how the world of music and its elements works.
Describe your show, visually and musically Our show begins with a nice introduction, lights out. But not always in that order. We make a visceral and tranquil at the same time show.
How do you view the musicindurty of today? I do not know the term "musicindurty" ..... lol
What advice would you like to give other bands? Dream with your feet on the ground. Be willing to suffer and fight for what they love!
What are the biggest obstacles for a band? The biggest obstacles vary from place to place. In Europe and the USA, it is easier to live music than in Brazil. Especially when it comes to Metal.
What is best/worst with playing the clubs? Only circumstances will tell. It's just a moment.
Tell us about upcomming gigs and why we should be at them? Increasingly our shows are becoming better. Always try to do a different show. We are a band from Brazil, and it certainly makes our music different.
How would you describe your sound in one sentence Heavy, Redemption and Glory.
What is your favorite crappy instrument? I'm not one ... lol ... I always try to change things cheap and turn them into interesting things.
What was one of the most quarrelsome times for you in the band? This moment is simple. Just take 5 different minds thinking he comes up. But with the former guitarist, was taut. But we like him. Has passed!............
Whats your Pre-show ritual? We always do everything running. But I like to stay quiet, talking with the guys, having a drink and eating something.
Do you have anything to add? Just wanted to thank you for the interview, and say that we are very happy because it is a way to disseminate our work also in Sweden and readers of your blog from other countries. Congratulations on your work, which is very important for the music and the heavy sound is even more widespread throughout the world!
