interview with Mors Cordis

What´s the name of your band? Mors Cordis
How was the band formed? The founding members were doing their (at this time obligatory) civilian service at the Charitè in Berlin/Germany.  We were young, had time and ideas, so we started a band. Sometimes it's quite simple.
Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?
All band members live in Berlin/Germany. Most of them were born in Berlin. The current line-up is:
Eddie Volkmar - Guitar
Thomas Mielke - Guitar
Paul Posse - Bass
Lukas Zacharias - Drums
Torsten Pfundt - Vocals, FX, Production
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you?
We're doing a mix of metal with a lot of other influences. The base is always a metal fundament,
which is crossed over with elements of Hip Hop, Electronic Dance Music and World music.
The vocals range from death metal growls to rap, clean singing and every noise one can make.
Where was your first gig? The first gig was in 1998 at the Knaack club in Berlin (Emergenza Band Festival).
Where was the latest gig? The latest gig was on the 7th November 2014 at the K17 club in Berlin.
Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Songs are mainly written by Eddie and Torsten, but Thomas also does some writing for the upcoming album.
Who has the best sense of humor in the band? No one. We have absolutely no sense of humor. We are the best band ever! Really. And we will stay until everybody knows this. Perhaps forever!
What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? We all love Mors Cordis because of its freedom to do whatever we want to. We don't care about genres and always try to make awesome powerful ass-kicking music. This is our biggest problem as well because people always think in categories. Every song is different! This is our credo.
What are your songs about? Our lyrics range from social criticism of everything to personal issues. Sometimes german, sometimes english. What serves the song best is the language to use.
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? Mainly own material.
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they?
Our first album was "Das Prinzip", which was released in 2006. The second album "Injection" was born in 2011.
In 2012 we released some bonus tracks. Shortly we released a free EP with our new song "Drowning", with 3 remixes
on it. All songs until now are freely available at www.morscordis.de!
We plan to release our third album in 2015. The album will be called "Ectopia Cordis". So watch out!!!
Do you have any clips on YouTube?
Yes! Our channel is: http://www.youtube.com/user/morscordismetal.
The latest video is drowning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRXFgYpj8jc
How old are you? We are all in the best age to make music.
What got you started in music? The wish to destroy all established music and show them how to do it right and of course world domination.
At what age did you start playing? We were really late. We started out at the age of twenty.
What year was the band started?
1998.
Best/worst gig you've played? Every gig is the best and worst at the same time.
What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? Mainly Berlin till someone wants us to play somwhere else.
Which band is the best you´ve seen?
The best band I (Torsten) have ever seen was: Mors Cordis. Just kidding!
There are a lot of bands which are aweful. To name some: System of a Down, The Prodigy,
Rammstein, Vader, Illdisposed, Chimaira, 5FDP and so many others I forgot.
Is it always the same songs live? No. Every gig is different. When we ever will play a tour there will be a fixed setlist for sure.
What has been the best/most promising gig so far? Our latest gig at the K17/Berlin.
Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? No. So feel free to book us via [email protected]
How big crowds do you usually play for? Between 100 and 500 people.
What are the plans for the rest of the year? To finish our new album "Ectopia Cordis".
When did you decide to go all in for the music? At no time. We all have regular jobs. The earning prospects in the music industry are simply to low. At least in the past. But who knows the future.
Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? Mainly the fresh ones. Currently we are adapting electronic styles and integrate them in our music. We don't really observe the metal sector. Hip Hop is also interesting.
What are your sources of inspiration? Our minds.
What's the first step when making a new song?
Writing the music. When the lyrics are finished the song will be edited to fit together.
How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? That's how it is. We never earned a cent with our music, so this is not an issue for us. Perhaps in the future.
What would be your dreams for the band? I really would like to move on with a constant line-up. This was a problem in the past, but it seems that this is solved with our current line-up.
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to?
All styles from classical to EDM and Hip Hop and some metal.
When you are on stage, what do you fear most then?
That the people will enter the stage and eat our skins like a zombie. That would definitely be surprising.
Have you been part of any other projects? Yes. We have started an electronic music project with metal guitars called "T.I.L.I.D.I.N." in 2013. Members are me (Torsten), Eddie and Thomas. The first EP will come in 2015 too.
Have you been in any other bands? Yes. All members were playing or play in other bands too. I can't name them all here.
What do you work with outside of the band and the music?
I am a system engineer and work for a small company near Berlin. Eddie is autonomous and projects electrical installations. Besides
this he finishes his studies to become a master. Thomas is also an engineer and works in the printing industry.
Paul is a professional musician and works as an booking assistent additionally. Lukas is also musician in several bands and works as
PA technician and stage assistent.
How important are your fans? Very. We do this for our fans and open-minded music listeners only. We consider our music not as an end in itself.
How often do you rehearse? Two times per week.

Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? Do your thing and keep the musical borders out of your head. Don't limitate yourself!
Describe your show, visually and musically.
Great or Indescribable. We will have some new surprises in the future.
No animals will be harmed is all we can reveal.
How do you view the musicindustry of today? They suck as always.
What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Not enough likes to get gigs or a deal. We know this very well.
How would you describe your sound in one sentence? Metal and Stuff.
What is your favorite crappy instrument? Robby. It is a small speaking robot-like toy for small children.
