interview with 1/2 Southern North

What is the name of your band? 1/2 Southern North (read:half southern north)

How was the band formed? Under the lack of musicians ,I took the challenge to do everything on my own,at least for the moment…

Can you tell about the band? 12SN is one member band from Kalamata Messinia Greece, formed in the winter of 2013 and after and year released the first demo "d.1" (an online demo for free download).

Who does what in the band? As one member band I do everything from music composition till the artwork and the promotion which is not so easy  if you haven't got funds or a label to support your work. But I thing that today we are at the age to D.I.O (do it yourselves).

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? I haven't got any ambitions about my music, just to improve my compositions day by day.

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Explains my music…I can;t explain sound or how my music sounds to someone else, because it depends on how you perceive it.The only thing that I can say is that my compositions enclose ambient, doom and drone elements.

Why did you pick that particular style? What are your songs about? I did not "pick" or choose what type of music I will create,it comes from within. My lyrical theme is about our inner fears, our brittle childhood and everything else contained in our everyday life.

Have you made any albums? If yes what are they? I have released the first 4 track demo "d.1" (in January of this year) which you can find it for free downloading in the band's site on Bandcamp.

What are the plans for the rest of the year? I want to improve my compositions as I said and put down the materials for the second demo.

What's the first step when you making a new song? The first step is to compose it,listen to it and let it tell you what to add or to remove.

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? This is a very complicated discussion which is included in music business and depends on what  angle you see it.To summarise it now companies can earn money from downloading (the legal),but it isn't so good for bands and musicians because the earned less than selling an album, but for me as a member from a small music project I prefer free downloading for my music because I know that I can not make living from that and I want people to listen to my music.

Have you been part of any other projects? I had an other uncompleted project "Lothron" (unactivated now) which was created under the help of some cooperated musicians (include only 2 songs ,active 2008-2009)

What are the biggest obstacles for a band? To create something fresh and innovative which can go forward away from stereotypes.

How would you describe your sound in one sentence? Sound of doom in ambient fields .
