interview with An Act of Treachery

What´s the name off bands? An Act of Treachery
What made you to be baptized to just "
An Act of Treachery"? After we decided to start a Band we also started to search for Names. We created a List full of names that we liked and I got inspired by a Sentence I wrote in the News Paper – “This is really an act of treachery!”
Who started the band?
The Founders are Stefan Hilber and I (Alexander Michor). We both work in the same company and did some Metallica Covers together. The cover stuff was so funny that we decided to write some own songs and try to find other musicians to play with.
Tell us a brief introduction of who you are?
An Act of Treachery is a four headed, modern Thrash Metal Band from Vienna, Austria. We try to combine the Thrash from the 80s with modern Groove und Melodic Death.
Where are you from?
Vienna, Austria
How did you meet?
Like I said, Stefan and I are workmates. Manuel our Bassist was a good friend of our former Vocalist Patrick (who left last year) and Claus, our Drummer was playing an Audition together with some other Drummers. He was such a professional guy that it was clear that he had to be the next drummer.
What is your name?/Who plays what?/How old are you?
Stefan, Guitar & Lead Vocalist – 31 years
Alex, Guitar & Second Vocalist – 27 years
Manuel, Bass – 26 years
Claus, Drums – 27 years
What was the plan when you started the band?
The Plan was to create music we love and have fun.  This Spirit keeps us working since 2010. We love what we do and spent a lot of time doing what we are doing.
Explain to those who have not heard you, how does your music?
Take some “Exodus”, “Testament”, “Metallica”, “Slayer” and “Kreator” mix it with the groove of  “Lamb of God”, the modernity of “Trivium”, “Machine Head” and the melodic Death of “The Black Dahlia Murder”, “Amon Amarth” and “In Flames” – put everything together  and you get an idea of “An Act of Treachery”
Each was led first gig?/Where were off last gig?
Our first Gig was 4 months after founding the Band. We played a show in the Rehearsal-Room in front of 40 People of something like that. The Last show was yesterday.  We played in our Hometown in a small Bar – was pretty cool and the first time we played Live without our former Vocalist.
Who writes the songs?/Who does the music?
The Basic Song Ideas are from Stefan or me. We write some licks and riffs and all together we combine them.  For the Lyrics are part from Stefan and me – they are always ritten after the music is finished

Who has the best humor? Mhh, I think all of us can be really funny and also can stand a joke.  So normally there is no bitching around if someone makes a funny tale.
Good and bad sides of the band? We all love what we are doing and if we have to spent money for something (Album, Merch, Rehersal Room etc.) there is now problem.  A Bad side is that only a few people care about the Underground Metal in Austria. It’s hard to get big shows.
What you drive for music style? Just Metal, little bit Classic and Rock
What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? We talk about what comes to our mind and things that run wrong in the World. Corruption, War, Death, Mental Sickness, Murders etc.
Do you own songs or covers? Live we play only own songs. For Rehearsal we also use some other songs to expand our skills.
Have you released any album or single?
We have a Demo EP called “Wasted Life”
a Full Length Album called “Reflections of a Dying World” (was released last year late November)

and a Single inc. Video for “Let them Burn”
What do you sell for merchendise gadgets? We have T-Shirts, Patches, CDs and Stickers.
Have you done any music videos? We released “Leth them Burn” from our CD “Reflections of a Dying World” as a Video. It was a small project with our Friend Kevin Siwatz who did everything alone. Big Thanks on this way Kev.
When did you decide to focus on the music?
I was raised by Metalheads – so it’s no surprise that I’m a Metalhead too.  I do the same thing with my son by the way ;)
How has your music evolved since you began playing music together?
At the beginning Stefan was the Thrash guy and I was the “modern new fag”!  I really like Metalcore and other modern Metal Styles – that’s why our demo sounds sometimes little bit core. The new Record is pure Thrash with a lot of Death.
What are your dreams with the band?
We are realists – we don’t want to rule the world. We just want to play, be heard and known.  There is nothing more important for us to be connected to people who love and share what we do.

What record do you work with?
For Distribution we work with Legacy Records, they sell some Shirts and our CD.
For Promotion we work with Portus Musica.
Describe your show, visual and musically
Four guys, banging and screaming there fucking heart out.
What are your two big favorite songs you done?
I really like “Our own Fault”, “Drowning” and “Asylum”!
For LIVE I always love “Darkest Times” – 100% Headbang
Have you had any previous bands?
Yeah for sure, we are old Bastards – every one of us was in a Band before.
What do you do besides the band and the music?
Work, Family and Friends. I have a 2 year old son, so I never get bored.
What would you do if the music does not fans?
I would try to find out why.
How important are your fans?
It’s like every Band (should) see – without the help from our Fans, Friends and Supporter
we can’t do what we do.
What is the funniest thing a fan did for you?
We got a self-painted sign and an “An Act of Treachery” Baby-Bodysuit.
Besides your music style you play what do you like the music still enjoy listening to?
I really love modern Metal and sometimes Hardrock and Acoustic Stuff.
What things are you most afraid of?
To lose someone I love.
What are you afraid will happen to you in the future?
I will get old and fatter than now.
What is the biggest fear when you go onstage?
Normally I’m not afraid but I hate it if something breaks.
What drives a band that is not very well known and live on it to continue to play?
The Fans and People who listen to your music and like it.  Every single Person that headbangs @ our shows or buys Merch is a drop of Gasoline for our Engine.
When did you start off band?
The Band was founded 2010.
Where have you played from 2010 to 2014?
“An Act of Treachery”
Do you always the same songs live or vary it? No, we vary nearly every time.
What countries have you played in?
Till now only Austria – but we are going to play in Germany this year and maybe some stuff in Czech and Hungary.
How do you up for a gig?
Every single one of us is searching the Web, for Gigs and Promoters (Bands). If someone needs someone we ask or get asked. It’s easy to play in your hometown but it’s hard to play somewhere else.
What are your favorite and least favorite venues you up on the wood?
The Stage @the “stp Metalweekend” was pretty awesome, I also like the ((SZENE)) in Vienna. I don’t have a least favorite venue, if there are motivated people it’s always nice.
Have you had to set up a concert?
Yeah for sure. We also do Gigshares with other Bands.
Best/worst performed gig?
For me the Support for UNEARTH was pretty awesome.
The worst gig was the 3rd gig we played.
Everything crashed @ the stage (strings, micro, Bassdrum..)
How many people usually come to your gig?
It depends where we are playing and why we are playing.
For example @ our CD Releaseshow we had 150 visiters.
In a small Underground xyz Event where you play @2AM - maybe 10
Where do you plan to play the rest of the year?
We are searching and planning now. But one cool gig will be at the Bavarian Hard Festival in Germany. Also some really nice shows with well-known Bands here in Austria.
What do you think of that they go to download music from the internet instead of buying records? To be honest, I also download a lot of Music via iTunes and Amazon. I only buy CDs from Local Bands or from really cool Bands at there shows (provided that I’m drunk)
What is your outlook on the record industry today?
I think a problem is that you don’t have the chance to just play music.  The old Bands like Metallica just said “fuck you I will do music or die”! Now a days you will die I think.
How would you describe your sound in one sentence?
Modern Thrash with a lot of groove and melodic Death.
What is the first step to a new song?
At Least one cool Guitar Riff or Drumline.
Have any of you songs published?
You can download our Demo EP for FREE and the new  CD “Reflections of a Dying World” is available as Hardcopy via Legacy-Records or as Download via iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Deezer……. or whatever the fuck you like.
When you do a song where are you going/what inspires your music?
Most of the Time I get inspired by Medias (for the Lyrics) and by other know Bands or Artist.  If I would listen 24/7 to Machine Head I’m sure my next song will sound much like Locust.
What's the best and worst of playing clubs?
There is nothing worse in playing Clubs, I love it.
What are your web pages?

or write us to
[email protected]
What are your role models before? My Parents.
What inspires you?
My Family and Friends
Is it easier to draw inspiration from older bands than the bands that are active today?
No, for me there is no difference – if I like a sound it doesn’t matter if it is an old Band or not.
Where is most common that you play?
For sure our Hometown.
What are your plans for the future?
We are going to film a new Video next week and will release a “old” one
in a new “dress”, who was never recorded correctly.
What advice would you give to other bands?
Just play what you like – don’t let yourself down.
Be nice to other Bands – together we are strong, no one needs a one man army.
Do you have anything to add?
Thanks to every single one out there who is listening to us, who visit our shows, buys merch and CD or just read this Interview.
