interview with IMICUS

What´s the name off bands? IMICUS
What made you to be baptized to just "Imicus"? It means “An attack of the mind” in latin but generally we let the music define the name rather than the other way around.
Who started the band? The band was started by three college friends and I joined as the singer
and brought in another guitar player from my first band.
Tell us a brief introduction of who you are?
What is your name?/Who plays what?/How old are you?
Miller – Vocals
Al Hutton – Rhythm Guitar / BV’s
Matt Turnbull – Lead Guitar
Bradley Beech – Bass
James Bourne - Drums
Explain to those who have not heard you, how does your music? We are focused on heavy guitars with big melodies, Dynamics are a key part of what we do and we try to offer light and shade in the songs.
Who writes the songs?/Who does the music? The music is written by the band with the lyrics etc by myself, we all have input on arrangements.
Who has the best humor? James our drummer. Quiet but when makes a comment its usually a good one.
Good and bad sides of the band? Good is the experience of performing and the bad is the amount of work that needs to take place that many people don’t see or appreciate. A lot more than just the music goes into a band and there is a great deal of sacrifice for that to happen.
What you drive for music style? We go for a timeless unrestricted style – not restricted by the latest fad or fad genre or a necessity to be heavy or light. Strong songs with good scope.
What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? I generally write around personal experience or interpretation of situations.
Do you own songs or covers? We write orginal material but have released one cover – “You don’t have to be old to be wise” a cover we were asked to record as part of Metal Hammer magazines tribute CD to the Judas Priest album “British Steel”.
Have you released any album or single? We have released one album (Animal Factory) and two singles – “Visceral” and “The Marionette”. “Visceral” was taken from our album “Animal Factory” that came out in 2010. “The Marionette” was a limited edition single that was released in 2011. Our new single will come out shortly and will be taken from our second album – all released later this year (2014).
What do you sell for merchendise gadgets? http://imicus.bigcartel.com/ we have T shirts, CD’s etc!
Have you done any music videos? Yes we released videos for both singles. “Visceral” that was played on
Scuzz and Kerrang TV and “The Marionette”. We have also got lots of back stage footage at our youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/ImicusTV?feature=watch
What has been your biggest challenge as a band? The biggest challenge at the moment is financial – to produce a great product, well recorded and mixed and to launch that with a good music video, the right PR support and get new merchandise and artwork, websites etc to be inline – it all costs and unfortunately the revenue streams for bands aren’t what they were – music is downloaded from torrent sites and live music venues have less money to pay bands when they have their own pressures. Support the bands you love – they appreciate it!
Describe your show, visual and musically Energetic, generally we play a set that has a lot of variety in it.
What are your two big favourite songs you done? My personal favourites are our new single – we haven’t announced the title yet so I cant say that here and “Visceral”.
How important are your fans? Having the bands fans makes it all worthwhile. The support they have shown has been brilliant during our recent break and over the coming months we will be paying the faith they have had back with a lot of work and new material and we can’t wait! It’s been too long!
What is the funniest thing a fan did for you? Not funny but we are very lucky to have a number of fans who have had our logo tattoo’d. That means a great deal.
How old were you at your first concert you saw? Around 10 – It was ZZtop with my dad.
Besides your music style you play what do you like the music still enjoy listening to? The band has very varied tastes – all sorts!
What is the biggest fear when you go onstage? That we have a technical / sound problem! That usually depends on the type of venue though!
Where have you played? We have enjoyed playing The Download, Bloodstock, Hammerfest, Hard Rock Hell, Bulldog Bash and many other festivals and tours.
Do you always the same songs live or vary it? There are some songs we know people want to hear that are often part of the set but with a new album coming out soon we are adding new material to the set and also playing some older material that we haven’t played in a long time so it’s generally going to be pretty varied!
Best/worst performed gig? The best was the Download festival – a packed crowd and great atmosphere with the songs being sung back at us – the worst was years ago where the venue was so awful they had speakers stacked on the floor with some beer crates and wanted me to sing through two mics at once because both were broken!
Tell us about your upcoming shows and why we should be there? To hear the new material and see the rebirth of the band!
Have any of you songs published? Yes – our debut album and singles are available on ITUNES and from many shops. They were released via Transcend Records.
What are your web pages?
http://www.facebook.com/IMICUS
http://www.IMICUSBAND.com
What are your role models before?
Personally – Layne Stayley for his vocal. I’m also a big fan of Karl
Middleton (earthtone9),Maynard James Keenan, Chino Moreno, Skin from skunk
anansie Corey Taylor and Scooter ward.
What are your plans for the future? New album and tours in 2014! Lots of them!
Do you have anything to add?I’d just like to thank everyone around the band that supports us – particularly recently.
