interview with Stille volk
What made you to be baptized to just "Stille Volk"? We thought it was an original name. It is a people coming from the depths of mythology.
Who started the band? Myself and the first drummer Yan Arexis
Tell us a brief introduction of who you are? We played since 1994 and we play primal and pagan music. We ‘ve released 2 demos, 5 albums ( Hantaoma, exuvies, satyre cornu, maudat, nueit de sabbat) and the next will be released in 2014 ( Pèira negra).
Where are you from? We come from south of France in a region called Pyrénées
How did you meet? I played in a band called Eviternity and the drummer in a band called Susscrofa. In 1992, we played together and we’ve talked about create an acoustic and pagan band.
Who plays what?
Myself : Roques: nyckelharpa, guitars and others string instruments
Lafforgue: vocals , hurdy gurdy and wind instruments
Arexis: percussions, samples
Sarg: guitars
Explain to those who have not heard you, how does your music? Pure pagan, primal , acoustic music with celtic, Occitan and medieval influences
Each was led first gig ? / Where were off last gig? We played our first concert in 1997 in a town called Tarbes in the Pyrénées. Our last gig was in Paris in september
Who writes the songs? / Who does the music? I create music and lyrics
Good and bad sides of the band? Only good sides, ah, ah
What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? All lyrics are based on a mineral and telluric paganism. We're not talking about war or ancestors, only mythology that we recreate according to our interests (Pan, Sabbath, elementals,
Do you own songs or covers? Some traditional themes and 3 covers:Paradise lod ( Painless) Iron maiden ( To tame a land sung in Occitan language) and Mercyful Fate ( Come to the Sabbath)
What do you sell for merchendise gadgets? Only shirts and cds: about 12 euros
Have you done any music videos? No professionally but you can find some on You Tube
How old were you when you started with music? I was 11years old when I started to play guitar
When did you decide to focus on the music? 11 year old!!
How has your music evolved since you began playing music together? We play better and our ideas are more interesting
What are your dreams with the band? No dreams, only playing!!
What has been your biggest challenge as a band? When we played at Hellfest festival last year
Describe your show , visual and musically Intense, emotional, pagan, oniric, orgiastic, bombastic
What are your two big favorite songs you done? Well, I don’t know: selena korona, forêt d’outre tombe, égérie nocturne, dans les confins s’en retourna… maybe
What have you participated in the past? I’ve played in different metal, death, thrash bands: metal storm, brain death, eviternity. And today I play too in hantaoma and aurost
What do you do besides the band and the music? I’m a teacher (history and French)
What would you do if the music does not fans? Music always!! Create music and play are truly essential for me
What is the best band you live way? Iron maiden
How old were you at your first concert you saw? I was 13 years old!!
How old were you at your first gig ? 17 year old
What is your goal with your music? Live!!
Besides your music style you play what do you like the music still enjoy listening to? Principally metal and traditional music
What things are you most afraid of? Death
What is the biggest fear when you go onstage? Break a string or a technical problem with my instrument
What drives a band that is not very well known and live on it to continue to play? Passion and pleasure
When did you start off band? In 1994
Where have you played from 2010 to 2013? France, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Açores. Different festivals: hellfest, motocultor, maia folks, trolls et legends, sauzipf rocks…
Do you always the same songs live or vary it? When we tired of playing the same songs, we work other songs. So it varies!
What is your pre-show ritual? No ritual, a good beer!!
Where do you sleep when you're going on tour? We play in unique concerts. So we sleep mainly at the hotel
How many people usually come to your gig? it ranges from 80 to 6000 people
What is your outlook on the record industry today? they are completely overwhelmed. They should have cut the price of the discs years ago to continue to give up the habit for children and young people continue to buy records
What are your favorite substandard instruments? Nyckelharpa
When you do a song where are you going / what inspires your music?elementals, archetypes, another world
What was one of your moments of fraction as a band? We didn’t really know moments of fraction. The ones who didn’t want to play with us anymore quit the band, that s all!
What's the best and worst of playing clubs?
The best: to play a good concert
Worst: no public!!!

What inspires you? Mythology, nature, art, a lot of things!!
Is it easier to draw inspiration from older bands than the bands that are active today? actually, I'm more inspired by the groups with which I grew up. A recent group 'm really impressed, it's Ghost, as you must know, ah, ah
What are your plans for the future? Realease a new cd and play concerts!
