interview with Self Deception

What´s the name of your band? Self Deception.

How was the band formed? Me "Andreas" and Erik (Drummer) met alittle more then a year before we started Self Deception, We were both looking for a band to play in that played the kind of music we liked. And after more then a year of problems switching band members, places to rehears and money for gear, we finally put the pieces together with two guys that we had found along the way. We decided to change the name of the band, and we started fresh with 'Self Deception'

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?

Me Andreas (Singer, former guitarist). I'm from Järfälla in Stockholm but have a large American family in the U.S.

Erik (Drums) is from Tyresö on the south side of stockholm.

Ronny Westphal (Guitar) also from Tyresö, has his roots from the Phillippines!

Patrik Hallgren (Bas) i from Järfälla!

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? Like any teenagers dream, make it worldwide!

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? It's a high pulsed modern rock, with influenses from west coast rock from the 90's, heavy rock and pop music.

Where was your first gig? Ung 08 Festivalen 2005, Kungsträdgården in Stockholm.

Where was the latest gig? Göta Källare in Stockholm.

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics?

We've pretty much written the songs together in the band through the years!

Until today I, Andreas (Singer) have been writing all the lyrics. But that's actually changing alittle now. The boys are getting more and more involved in the lyrics. and actually on of my favorite lines in our upcoming EP "The Walls" our drummer Erik came up with!

Who has the best since of humor in the band? We are all complete idiots.

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about?

Well it started out with me and Erik, loving bands like Papa Roach, P.O.D and such. And we started from there, and it's changed alot over the years. Now it's all about the feel, we don't try to stick to "our" sound we just write what we want to write.

The lyrics have been alot about my life. But also about people around me, and the band.

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they?

2 full albums and one EP.

2009 - Restitution

2011 - Over the threshold

2014 - These Walls

Do you have any clips on YouTube? www.youtube.com/selfdeceptionsthlm

How old are you?/What got you started in music? I'm 27. I thought it was fun, and the dream of getting alot of attention I guess :)

At what age did you start playing? Played alittle drums before I started singing at age 15.

How old were you guys when you first stood on stage? 15

Is it always the same songs live? We switch it up, but we have are core songs that are the "Hits".

What are the plans for the rest of the year?

Release our EP "These Walls".

Have a kick ass release party.

Tour for a bit.

When did you decide to go all in for the music? As soon as we had released our first demo back in 2005!

What are your sources of inspiration? We all like different kinds of music, but I guess what inspires us most today

What's the first step when making a new song? One of us comes to rehearsal with an idea or we just jam until we find something that sticks.

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? Well I guess we are the generation of downloaders so we really don't have much of an opinion about that.

What would be your dreams for the band? For starters being able to work with Self Deception full time. Making it big is the grand prize!

When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? Gear that you can't replace breaking down.

Have you been part of any other projects?

I myself work as a performer in a coverband.

Ronny our guitarist had previously played in a cool band called Hollywood Make Believe!

Patrik and Erik have had a couple smaller projects previously!

How important are your fans? They are everything. We are so lucky to have the supporters that we have today! They are simply amazing!

What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? Well there have been cool band tattoo's and fanvideos and so on. But best one must have been a fan that by himself travelled across the country for one of our gigs!

How often do you rehearse? 3 times a week when we rehears for perfomances.

Where do you rehearse? In Haninge, south of Stockholm

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? Killed our love & Stay Young

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? You gotta love what you're doing :)
