interview with Evadne

What made you call the band "Evadne"? The name Evadne comes from the Greek mythology; Evadne was a semi-goddess, wife of Capaneo, who committed suicide for love. She was thrown to the pyre mortuary of her husband, who was murdered by Zeus. because the band wants to transmit (suicide, love, despair, loneliness). 

How was the band formed? 2004, were friends wanting to have fun and create different music

Can you briefly introduce your band and who you are? I´m Joan (drummer) we are a melodic doom/ death metal from Valencia (Spain)

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? only have good company and create music

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Not easy to explain this style of music. We seek to convey these feelings hidden, taboo. The dark part of the human being. All that our culture try to avoid in their lives... For us lettristic and musical poetry is fully connected to the tragedy.

Where was your first gig? 2008 with Officium Triste.

Where was the latest gig? Procession of the Plague tour with Evoken and Ophis and now again with Officium Triste.

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? together! we create all lyrics and music

Who has the best since of humor in the band? all have good humor, we are artistically depressives but in real life we are quite happy.

What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are?

Melodic Doom / Death Metal

good: we can do what we want and feel

Bad: economy

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? is different, we are more comfortable creating this kind of music and lyrics. The songs talk about depression, agony, death, love, despair, suicide, distress...the tabu feelings.

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? Own material.

Do you have any clips on YouTube? yes, one of the last album "The Shortest Way" (One last dress for one last journey)

How old are you?/What got you started in music? now 24,  I started about 14 years old

How old were you guys when you first stood on stage? 17 years old

How old were you the first time you saw a liveband play? A punk concert! 13 years old!

What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? Spanish tour with Officium Triste.

Where have you played from then till now? Spain, Portugal, Holland, London,Belgium, Latvia, Estonia ,Finland, Germany.

What songs are in your live set's? Each concert we decide on a different set list.

What has been the best/most promising gig so far? ODYSSEY OF DREAD with evoken and ophis

What are the plans for the rest of the year? Now we works in a new album!

Where do you usually play? Where we can and where the people call us

What are your goals with your music? Have fun, enjoy the pure feeling of the music, living as a musician (someday)

When did you decide to go all in for the music? For me it is an innate feeling, since I learned to appreciate music.

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? All kinds of bands

What are your sources of inspiration? The life, stories, poems, philosophy, landscapes, moods, night, rain, darkness, fall ... whatever happens and we see makes us feel differently, everything is inspiration

What's the first step when making a new song? No first step, it may be a lyric , a riff, a melody, a drum break...

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? Hmm I think the free download is important for promotion but if you like an album you should buy to support the musicians with few resources.

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? All kinds of doom, DBM, black metal, old school death metal, post-rock, crust, punk, pop, BSO, ambient. ahab, gris, watain, catacombs, shape of despair, colosseum, mogway, if this trees could talk, amebix, bathory, venom, tragedy, summoning...etc,etc,etc

What would be your greatest fears for the future? I try not to think about the future and live the present

Have you been part of any other projects? yes, I play 70´s punk and HxC.

What would you do if there was no music? Definitely suicide

How important are your fans? Very important because no fans, no music for them.

How often do you rehearse? 2-3  times per week.

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? No place for hope, one last dress for one last journey

What do you feel is the best liveband you've seen? Anathema of course.

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? love for music

Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? if they have love for what they do , they must continúe although it all goes wrong.

how do you view the musicindurty of today? wrong, there are many undervalued and high quality bands without real support, the industry just wants money.

How would you describe your sound in one sentence melancholy

Whats your Pre-show ritual? relaxation, warm-ups, isolation.
