What´s the name of your band? Sick Sad World
What made you call the band "Sick Sad World NANTES"? It’s only Sick Sad World ! We added "Nantes" (our city, in France) only on Facebook because there is a lot of “Sick Sad World” on it. Sick Sad World is a parodic TV show in “Daria”. But mostly we love that it expressed
How was the band formed? Basically we are a group of friend who just wanted to make music. But the line up has changed a lot since its inception. There is just two personn (vocals and bass) from the original group.
Can you tell about your band? We play a metal close to post-hardcore and atmospheric sludge. We love alternating percussive parts with other more ambient. We are not searching the technical things, we are more in emotion
Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? We are all from Nantes (or close to), at the west of France. Antonin and Erwan plays guitars, Rico bass, David “La Bête” drums and Julien sing/scream.
What was the ambitions of the band when you started? When we started the goal was just to have fun playing with friends and creat the best possible song. Now is that our songs can be heard by more and more people
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? I think that we do an emotional music. We mix the intensity of metal to the atmospheres of post rock. We are happy guys who made sad music.
Where was your first gig? It was in a community arts centre for young, in our town
Where was the latest gig? It was in the center for actual music of our region.
Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? We writes all our songs together. It always starts with a riff of a guitarists or bass. And we all made together around. And the singer writes the lyrics.
Who has the best since of humor in the band? Everybody. That’s why it’s cool to play in this band.
What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? The good thing is the atmosphere, in our song and..inside the band. All is natural and easy. The bad thing is our lack of time and our lack of awareness, we don’t make enough concert and not far enough.
Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? We’ve pick that style because it’s the style that we like to hear and like to create. Our song are always about sad and melancholic things.
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We only write our own material !
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? We have a split EP and a LP. The slip Ep is with the one-man band AnotherMoon, he’s called “Ruins of a forgotten world”. Our album, “Murmuration” is totally new (april 2014) .

How old are you?/What got you started in music? The youngest 29 years old, the oldest 35. A part of the band start in music very young, they’ve take lessons of guitars or drums. But it’s always by passion and a little bit by chance that we start music.
What year was the band started? The band start in 2006/2007. But the actual line-up start in 2011/2012
Best/worst gig you've played? Our bests gigs are often in small bars, the audience is closer, drunk and the atmosphere is better. The worst, maybe in a festival with partygoers, they were not here for the music.
What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? We will play on two small bar in the west of France, in Nantes and Tours.
Where have you played from then till now? A lot of nice place, but unfortunately still in our region.
Witch band is the best you´ve seen? It depend of the member of the band, bands like Cult of Luna, Metallica or Envy.
Is it always the same songs live? No it depend, we try to play a new song as soon as it can be.
What has been the best/most promising gig so far? Maybe a gig in a big local place called “Le Ferrailleur”. A lot of big band play here. We’ve play with Coilguns.
How big crowds do you usually play for? It depend, 30 to 150
What are the plans for the rest of the year? To promote our album for being discovered by more and more people. Find gigs away from Nantes.
What are your goals with your music? That people are touched by our music
When did you decide to go all in for the music? It has not decided. We do things without thinking, step by step. We take what fate offers
Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? Both. Music is an eternal, we must not forget the groups that trace the path before us. But there is a lot of incredible bands actually. More than ever probably.
What are your sources of inspiration? Others bands music, we all listen a lot of things. Art in global, nature..the life !
What's the first step when making a new song? It always start with a guitar riff. After we talk all together of what is the feeling giving by this riff, what can be the story around.
How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? I love the cd and vinyl, the packaging, the object. So I do not understand that people can only download. But if someone downloads a band to discover them, and then buy the album if he really likes it, it's not a problem.
What would be your dreams for the band? Playing with Deftones and Cult of Luna maybe. Or better, than Deftones and Cult of Luna open for us !
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? We listen everything but mostly post-hardcore, sludge, stoner, metal, post rock, hardcore,…Bands like The Ocean, Deftones, Cult of Luna, Ghost Brigade, Time to burn, Devil sold his soul, Envy, Sigur Ros, Metallica, Agalloch, Opeth,…
What would be your greatest fears for the future? Music is a passion, it’s just a “bonus” in our life, so there is no big fear. The worst thing would be just to stop the group. but it is not a fear .
When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? Than a monster came frome the darkness to eat us ! No, just to make a bad show for the people who came.
Have you been in any other bands? Sure, we all had bands before “Sick Sad World”. But nothing as important. Actually our drummer play in “Du Heol” and a guitarist in “Turndown”
How important are your fans? We create for us before all, but without them there would be no use in promoting what we do. they advise us, make us advance.
How often do you rehearse? Three hour by week. Not enough…
Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? Obsolete Obstacle, Missing Bro
What do you feel is the best live band you've seen? Some members of the band will say Metallica, others Envy or Cult of Luna
What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? The joy of creating, of being together, the love of music. If we wanted to be famous, we would not have play metal
