interview with Bokluk

What´s the name of your band? Corey: Bokluk

How was the band formed? Corey: The band was formed in 2007 in A Coruña (Spain) by Tukas (guitars) and me (drums) as a parallel project of our respective bands but until 2011 Bokluk not really began as a band. When Álex (vocals) and Iago (bass) entered in the band, Bokluk really born.

Can you tell about your band? Corey: We play agressive, violent, dark and raw old school Death Metal, nothing to do with modern bands with crap guitar-heroes and shitty triggered drums.

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?
Corey: We are 4 members and everyone from the same city, A Coruña:
Álex: Vocals
Tukas: Guitars
Iago: Bass/Vocals
Corey: Drums

What was the ambitions of the band when you started?

Corey: Our only ambitions are play our music and have fun playing it, record stuff and play in live shows all we can.

Iago:  To pay tribute to all the classic Death Metal bands and spread our plague as we can.

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you?

Corey: As I said you, we play old school Death Metal influencied by american and european bands and also by the old Grindcore/D-Beat/Crust Punk scene. Imagine bands like Obituary, Nihilist/Entombed, Autopsy, early Death, early Cryptopsy, Incantation, Terrorizer, early Cannibal Corpse, early Napalm Death, Discharge, Extreme Noise Terror, Grave, Extinction Of Mankind, Doom, Wolfpack, Dismember...

Iago: Death Metal made with passion and attitude in the old school way (the only real way).

Where was your first gig? Corey: Our first gig was in our town, A Coruña, in a squat called C.S.O. Palavea with the band Tempesta 4 years ago.

Where was the latest gig? Corey: The latest gig was the last year in Ourense, a city nears ours with the bands Upcoming Of Devastation, Himura and Cadalso.

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Corey: Songs are written almost entirely by Tukas but everyone in the band everyone collaborate in composition in one way or another. Lyrics are totally written by Álex, he is who better knows the Bokluk lyrical concept, some more original than the typical death metal lyrics about zombies, gore or grave desecrations...

What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? Iago: Good (and the best) is play, play, play play and play in the rehearsal room, bad is the opposite from this. We define ourselves as Death Metal.

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about?

Iago: We play this music genre because is our passion and because we are very confortable playing it. I like the whole Death Metal but personally I prefer the old school american bands; masterpieces like Eaten Back To Life and Tomb Of The Mutilated by Cannibal Corpse, Altars Of Madness by Morbid Angel, Slowly We Rot by Obituary and Mental Funeral by Autopsy are my favourite Death Metal albums.

Corey: This is the only thing I know how to do, and the reason I was born. Take it the Altars Of Madness, Mental Funeral, Slowly We Rot, Onward To Golgotha, From Enslavement To Obliteration, Left Hand Path or Horrified and you will find my favourite masterpieces of all times!

Do you write your own material or mainly covers?

We write our own songs but also we play another cover in live shows.

Corey: We write our own songs but once in a while we play some cover in live shows.

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? Iago: Downloading music is creating too much information and not assimilate as the music is should, as far as promotion is a fairly easy system to let you know, but if you can, buy the album.
