interview with Madmans Esprit
Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?
They were all Korean.
It started with 4 members but after our drummer is taken to army,
rest of the members have split away.
Now i do it all by myself.
Anyway Before drummer’s leaving, i wrote every songs and lyrics.
So, nothing is changed with music.
What was the ambitions of the band when you started? I didn’t have any ambition.
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Dark, sad song. I hope my song is good to listen when you want to slit your arm.
Where was your first gig? With this band, It was Incheon, sea town of Korea.
Where was the latest gig? Small fucking childish live club near my house.
Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics?
I write everything.
What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? This is not matter of good or bad, and i simply don’t want to categorize it.
Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? I didn’t pick, i just materialize my inner side. If metaphysical things inside me have form of sound, it sounds like this band’s music.
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they?
1 E.P, 1 DEMO, 1 FULL-LENGTH
Recently i release my first full-lenth called ’NACHT’ through Itallia’s ATMF
How old are you?/What got you started in music?
23 years old.
My father was huge fan of Pink floyd, Black sabbath and all kind of 70~80’s stuff.
And my mother always played Classic musics, jazz kind of things in my house.
I grew up with music, it is naturally happened.
At what age did you start playing? 13, i started to learn guitar.
How old were you guys when you first stood on stage? I was 19.
What year was the band started? Near 2011.
Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern?
I prefer older bands.
But my favorite is old band’s modern music.
What's the first step when making a new song? Grab my nylon guitar.
How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums?
I don’t actually care.
Age is changing. CD will be a dead media like the LP or Tape day by day.
But personally, i still buy CDs if it has its value.
Not just music. Album art, Design, Lyrics as a poetical works.
Musicians need to understand what age they are living.
We just can’t force to buy CD.
Make an Album what has enough value to collect or find alternative.
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to?
Almost everything.
I like Shining(Sweden), Opeth, Dir en grey, Bethlehem, Radiohead, Pink floyd, Deathspell Omega, Elliott Smith, Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Ihsahn, Jeff Buckley
too many to write down here.
Have you been part of any other projects? Yes. Sometimes i play acoustic and i’m also doing a post-rock stuff.
What would you do if there was no music? Maybe paint or write something.
How important are your fans? If someone likes my music, that is always a precious thing.
Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment?
In der nacht.
My little, dark paradise.
Do you have any webpages? Yes. http://inukyuho.wix.com/madmansesprit
Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there?
Stop making self copying piece of shit.
Be yourself, not someone famous.
How do you view the musicindurty of today?
It is all fucked up.
Because it is too long to write here, i will make it simple.
Corporation, Money, Media, Stupid people, Stupid music.
Nonresistance.
Same old logic of capitalism .
What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Government power, Lack of consciousness.
Whats your Pre-show ritual? Nothing special, usually drink Soju(Korean alcohol) and stuck in corner of waiting room and think about death or some useless things.
