interview with CRACKWHORE
Have any of you played in other bands? Yeah, I couldn't even list them all if I tried. Sinned, Muspellheim, Abuse, Tyrants Blood, Gross Misconduct, Tard, Myopia, Hurt, just to name a few.
How is it that you started playing music? To escape the realities of my fucked up childhood.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
Mister Nasty - bass - 39
Bitchslapper - drums - 38
Violator - guitar - 32
Regurgitator - vocals - 37
Have you had other previous members? Our original line up featured a different vocalist.
Did you make music even when you were young? We've all been playing since we were kids and teenagers.
Where are you from? Vancouver, Canada
What year did the band form? We formed in 2003 and disbanded in 2005, then reformed in Jan 2014.
What's your style of genre? Chunky, rhythmic, grinding deathmetal. We call it Crackmetal
What inspires you? Intrinsic drive
How often and where do you reherse? Once a week at the Crack Shack.
How have you developed since you started with the music? The first album was recorded ten years ago and is very nasty, angry and raw. The new stuff has all that but is more slick and clever. It lures you in with candy and then pounces and doesn't let go...
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? I'm a strength and conditioning coach, Violator is into MMA, Bitchslapper and Regurgitator have other musical projects they are involved in, plus everyone except me has kids and families and I'm working on my own business so were all real busy...
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Yeah we've been looking at some options for the second album. We are getting close to recording now, so label support is something we want to get sorted out in the next little while.
What made you decide to make this music? We wanted to make our parents proud.
What are your songs about? Rainbows and unicorns.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? The three of us write the music, we hand the finished product to Regurgitator and he lays down the lyrics and vocal patterns.
Do you compose in a certain environment? No, it's death metal, not yoga.
What language do you sing in? The language of love (english).
What ages are most of your concert attendants? 18-50
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We like to mix it up.
What was your first gig like? My brain doesn't function that far back. Too much uphill skiing back in those days.
What was your latest gig? We played with Zuckuss at Funkys.
Have you had to cancel a gig? Haha, yeah! We were gonna headline a metalfest for our first show back after a nine year hiatus but a bunch of PC punks and Christians, started an online protest because they were offended by our name or album or something. It was hilarious. The promoter who was gonna do some guest vocals, got all scared and kicked us off the bill. Unbelievable. Eventually the entire fest ended up getting cancelled. There's still a bunch of butt-hurt wieners making a fuss every time we play. Too funny. I'm pretty sure this could only happen in Vancouver.
Where do you plan to gig the comming year? We have been busy writing the new album so we only have a couple local shows lined up at the moment.
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? Right now we have T-shirts, CDs, and dildos for sale.
Where can people buy your merchandise? Contact us through Facebook.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? It kinda sucks that bands spend so much money on gear and recording and people can just take the final product for nothing. At the same time, it's a lot easier to get exposure and build a fan base accross the globe. So it has it's perks and downfalls. Just try to sell more more shirts I guess.
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? It will? Cool. We can use all the help we can get.
Do you have any role models or idols? I'm too old for role models or idols. I can really relate to Patrick Bateman though.
Why do you think that they exist? People exist because their parents had unprotected sex. Breeding is a poor choice if you ask me.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Whatever turns your crank. There are no rules.
What have been your biggest obstacles? Our busy schedules and the Vancouver metal scene.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? I have no idea. Go ask Slayer.
How do you get psyched for a gig? When the four of us get together, magical things happen. We just get on that stage and explode.
Do you have any new material? Almost a whole new album.
What are your web sites? Just go to our Facebook page. Keeps things simple.
What are your plans for the future? I'm gonna go crank some weights, slam a shake and go join a lady friend for drinks.
Do you have something to add? Thanks for the interview. Have a nice day.
