interview with CrowMorph

Have any of you played in other bands? No yet. Jim, our rhythm guitar, played live with Back In Pain ans I used to play with a pop/prog band named Ogresse Newimbubao. Crowmorph is our only Band

How is it that you started playing music? As many kids I guess. We start with Trash metal stuff like Slayer, Metallica, Machine Head and we want to do the same. Jim created a band call Chicken Destroy in is garage with our first drummer and with some old friend.

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? So we are 5 pieces band: Amanda is the lead singer, Jim rhythm guitar and main writer, Flo lead guitar, Chris drums and I (Julien) bass. We are between 23 and 33 years old.

Have you had other previous members? Yes. Gizmo was the founding drummer, he plays on the EP “Chroma”. When he left the band, Eduardo joined us for to 1 years and now Chris player drums since the end of 2013.

Did you make music even when you were young? Jim started when he was a young kid. He learned Violon then guitar. Flo was around 12 years old when he started play guitar, he play drums to (his father is a good drummer). Amanda sings since she can speak. Chris played drums since 10 years. And I started by learning guitar and player bass since 2007.

Where are you from? We live close to Paris.

What year did the band form? Jim, Flo and I played together since  2008. But Crowmorph was born in 2010.

What's your style of genre? We usualy say that we are a Trash/Death band with spread with sludgy elements.

What inspires you? it’s more for the lyrics that Amanda look the struggle of life. She wrote about her own experience and stuff that really make her anger like the treatment of the animal.

How often and where do you rehearse? Every thurday.

How have you developed since you started with the music? With Jim and Flo, we started to plau really traditional Trash band. And when we grow up we started to get interested by new stuff like metalcore or stoner. At the end the mix of all that influences made our sound

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? For sure. Amanda has her personal Make up agency (Vcosmetiques Maquilleuses), Jim is a sound ingeneer, Chris is barman, Flo is programmer and I’m a journalist for 2 magazines.

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Not yet but we will. We need to finish our first album and at that time we wiil looking for a booking agency. We had to ready to kick ass before.

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Same for booking agency. We decided to produce all the album with our own money. Now it’s closed to be finished so we will check label after that. We really believe in our music cause we make it with our heart. So we hope that guyz will love it and want to work with us.

What made you decide to make this music? Nothing reallys special. It’s come so naturally that I doesn’t have a better answer.

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Jim compose all the music. We work on it together but I think that 95% of the music come from him. Amanda writes the lyrics

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Always music first then lyrics

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? Jim works alone in his bedroom. Some stuff come from jam during rehearse but most of the material was written by Jim alone
Have you done any covers live? By the past we have played “Funeralopolis” from Electric Wizard for a special event. But that was a one shot. We only play our own music

What language do you sing in? Amanda sings in our own language so in French

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? Ahaha we played in an old abbey with 2 guyz and amazing gigs with Red Fang and 300 metalheads

What ages are most of your concert attendants? 30

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We have more than 20 songs ready and generally play 8/10 songs

Do you have a regular place you play live often? Yes, we often play at Le Klub in Paris. This is the underground venue for metal in Paris

What was your first gig like? That was at Le Klub opening for the amazing Swiss band Kruger late 2010.

What was your latest gig? That was the Cyrano Headbang #2 in Gif Sur Yvette. Great gigs with cool guyz and a lot of beer

Have you had to cancel a gig? Once. We had a gigs in Lille. They was a huge storm of snow and we physically can’t go outside our house.

Where have you played live this year? Gif Sur Yvette and Paris. But the years is not ended yet.

Where do you plan to gig the coming year? We will see cause we are still finishing our first album. We ahd some ideas but nothing confirm.

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? When the first EP came out in 2011 we had shirt, guitar pick, stickers, many compilation.

Where can people buy your merchandise? On our Facebook, just send us an email

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records nowadays? That’s the rules now. So we are lucky cause metalhead still buying music. But I think that If they like the music they will buy it later or come to the show. We had to stay positive

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? Except the old band, noboday can’t sell million album in the metal. So now the main source of income is concert. The main change for me is the price of the ticket. Man when I was a kid I went to see Metallica for 30€, now it’s more than 70€. The band had to search other way to earn money.

What do you think of my work? Sound great dude. Gratz for your job ;)

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? First interview in Sweden dude. We hope that some Swedish metalhead will go to our Facebook and enjoy our music and why not have the opportunity to come here and kick some ass !!!!

Do you have any role models or idols? Each of us got one. Jim is a huge fan of Robb Flynn. For Chris it’s Marilyn Manson, me Metallica. For Flo and Amanda it’s less evident but at the end we are really open minded.

Why do you think that they exist? Cause they kick ass.

Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Both. We love old stuff like Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin but bands like Suicide Silence or Whitechapel inspired us to.

What have been your biggest obstacles? Time and mony of course

What advice would you give other bands or artists? Always keep the faith in what you do.

How do you get psyched for a gig? Beeeeeers!

Do you have any new material? Songwritting is already finish. All tracks recorded. Now it’s time to mix/metering.
