Interview with Utopia Unborn

What´s the name of your band? The name of our band is Utopia Unborn.
How was the band formed? Kind of a long story. We already had a project in the past, which was named "ScumDrug" but we split that up due to a lack of time. And last year (2014) we decided to continue making music together. And so Utopa Unborn was formed.
Can you tell about your band? We started as a Doom/Death/Black/Gothic Metal band. Lately we decided to go more into the direction of Dark/Alternative Rock. The lyrics in the beginning were mostly about Death, Depression and religion. Nowadays we concentrate on love and relationships in our lyrics.
Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? We are a two-man-band. Deady is doing vocals and he is from Leese. Alex is doing drugs and plays a little bit guitar and he is from Leese as well.

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? Getting drunk, getting laid, getting high.
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? We play modern rock music with experimental influences (like strange synthesizer and shit) and lyrically we write about love and relationship. "Girlie Rock" if you want to say so.

Who writes your songs?/ who writes the music who writes lyrics? Well, most of the lyrics by now are written by Alex as well as all the music. But there are songs from Deady coming, too in the near future.
Who has the best since of humor in the band? Both of us. We are sick bastards that can laugh about everything.
What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? Everything is good in our band. We are friends since we went to school together, so we always know how far we can go with eachother. The genre thing... We could categorize ourselves as a Dark Rock band.
Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? Our songs deal with romances, love and relationships in all aspects. So we do not only focus on the good sides of that, but also try to concentrate on the rather negative aspects about these things.
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We'd say 50/50. We did a lot of covers im the past to find our style, but now we are mainly working on our songs.
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? We are currently working on our first demo called "Black Rose Romance", which is coming in summer of this year.
Do you have any clips on YouTube?

How old are you?/What got you started in music?
Deady is 23 years old and Alex is 22 years old.
Deady: I've grown up with music from Bagpipes to E-Bass. So it was kind of naturally to start a band.
Alex: I've always been kind of a freak when it came to music. No matter what genre. And at some point this whole "Being a fan"-thing was no longer enough, so I teached myself how to play guitar. And I'm building up on that eversince.
At what age did you start playing?
Alex: I started playing guitar when I was 16 years old.
Deady: I started playing when I was 8 years old.

What year was the band started? 2014

What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? Well, we couldn't play live up to now, because we are just two people. But we hope to find people that are just as fucked up as we are, so we can add them to our line-up and then we want to play anywhere. Doesn't matter. We're whores.

Witch band is the best you´ve seen?
Alex: I don't really like to go to concerts.
Deady: Thin Lizzy!!!

What are the plans for the rest of the year? We want to finish the demo, complete our line-up and start to work on new material already.

What are your goals with your music? To go as far as possible.
When did you decide to go all in for the music? As soon as we started playing music.
Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? Deady: That's completely mixed up. I take inspiration from artists like Ozzy Osbourne as well as from bands like ASP (from Germany).
What are your sources of inspiration?
Deady: Booze, boobs and booster.
Alex: Girls, girls, girls.
What's the first step when making a new song?
Almost everytime it starts with Alex picking up the guitar.
How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? We think it's a good think for unknown bands to spread their music, but of course it's a problem for bigger bands, because making a record is pretty expensive, so it's money that got lost. But we prefer to hold something in our hands, look through the booklet and read the lyrics. We're old-school bitches.

What would be your dreams for the band? To go from the hobby that it is now to being a completely professional band.
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to?
Deady: Mainly metal, such as Sodom, Judas Priest, Slayer and Tankard.
Alex: Lately I've been into german Hip-Hop-music like Trailerpark and 257ers. But I also like to listen to bands such as Lovex, The Rasmus, Him and so on.
What do you hold most dear?
Deady: My TV. It did cost 500 bucks.
Alex: Toilet paper.
What would be your greatest fears for the future? Running out of toilet paper.

What songs and what years were they released? Pretty much all of our songs were released durign 2014.

Have you been part of any other projects?
Deady: No.
Alex: I am the guy that's behind the DSBM-Project called "Mardröm" and also I have a Post Rock project named "Your Solar Eclipse".

What would you do if there was no music? Create music.
How important are your fans? Which fans are talking about?,

What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? We were given a bootleg-CD  with our older songs on it. With professional artwork and shit. That was great.
How often do you rehearse? Not as often as we should.
Where do you rehearse? In Alex' flat.
Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment?
Deady: "The Power of Love" and "United We Stand (Wounded We Fall)"
Alex: "Bury Me Deep Inside Your Heart" and "The Power of Love"

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing?
Deady: Well, hope dies last.

Alex: There are other bands?

Do you have any webpages? www.facebook.com/utopiaunborn

How do you view the musicindurty of today? From outside the music industry.

What advice would you like to give other bands? If we'd know anything, we'd share.

What is your favorite crappy instrument? The teremin.

Whats your Pre-show ritual? Searching for shows.
