What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? EMPTY DREAMS are: Emese Kiss - keyboards/vocals , Hunor Madaras - lead guitar, Sanko Gusan - guitar, Attila Nagy - bass and myself, Tibor Turke - drums.
Have you had other previous members? Yes we had a lot over the past 17 years.
Where are you from? We're from Transylvania ,from a small town called Reghin
What year did the band form? I start the band in early 1998...with drawing the logo, that we are stil using since than :) The first line up didn't work just for a couple of months... In early 2000 a new line up was gathered and we had our first gigs, demos etc. In the late of 2002 i decide to disband the team because of the usual musical dissensions. So this was the early period of the band.
In august 2006 we start it again with a new keyboard player/vocalis/songwriter Emese Kiss...and here we are in 2015 :)
What's your style of genre? In the Hungarian version of Metal Hammer our music was described once as Gothic-Power-Progressive Metal ...so we start to use this definition.
How often and where do you reherse? At least once in a week in our own rehersal room.
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? We all have full time jobs.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? As i said we have full time jobs we dont want to turn our pleasure into a job...so as a band we are ok this way.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Not really...at least till we got some decent offer.
What made you decide to make this music? Hmmm...its so many years since that...dont really remember.
What are your songs about? Well, you better listen to them...anyway we try to avoid the typical metal cliches.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Our main composer since 2006 is Emese Kiss. Usually she compose the full song on piano then we came and metalize it. The lyrics are also written by Emese with a couple of exception from the past co-written with me.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Ussualy with the music...after all,we play music.
Have you done any covers live? Yes,but only a couple...maybe 5 in all this years. From the very beginning we focused on composing our own music. I never want to turn EMPTY DREAMS in some kind of cover band.
What language do you sing in? English. But we have one song from 2001 in romanian version too and we are planning to made a song in hungarian too, wich is our native language.
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? 50-1000 ...it depends
What ages are most of your concert attendants? From teenagers to 30+
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? Obviously we use to vary them.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? Nope.
What was your first gig like? I think it was a surprise for the audience...they like it.
What was your latest gig? In august at a Transylvanian festival called "EMI Tabor" with a lot of Hungarian headliners like Ossian,Dalriada etc
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? From the first demo back in 2000...Cd-s T-shirts nothing unusual.
Where can people buy your merchandise? We are an unsigned band so its obviously that our fans use to contact us.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days?
I use to download too...just to check out if it worth buying. But personally i have a huge collection of Cd-s Dvd-s and vinyls,... I have something around 140 items only with my all time favorite band: Iron Maiden ....and a lot more with the rest of my fav bands.
Regarding the question i think real fans are stil buying records...you cant compare the feeling of having a record in your hand instead of some fu***in Mb on your hard disc.
Unfortunately the young ones dont really got this feeling...they are used with downloading for free, one or two track ...most of them they are not even listen to a full album.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? Well i think its going to extintion...honestly
What do you think of my work? To be honest i dont really had the time to take a look over it...
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? Well,we hope to reach some new peoples through this too.
What have been your biggest obstacles? The Iron Curtain.
Do you have any new material? Yes we are working on some new songs.
What are your plans for the future? To enjoy playing and writing our own music...thats all it matters to us!
Do you have something to add? Nope. Thank you for the interview!
