interview with Love Like Suicide
Have any of you played in other bands? Yes all my bandmates are highly experienced and I'm lucky to have them, I have been trying to start a band since 2010 but the only other band I had was when I was 10, we called it m&m's because all our names started with the letter M, we broke up after Eminem came out.
How is it that you started playing music? Since I was 5 I was singing to my teddy bears and barbies.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? My name is Molly, I front the band and play some rhythm guitar, Troy Richardson plays bass and backup vox and Blake Martin plays drums, we're a good age and currently looking for a new lead guitarist if you know anyone!
Have you had other previous members? Like a billion by now. Can't hardly keep track. Our band name should've been "revolving door".
Did you make music even when you were young? Yes, when I was 9 I recorded myself on cassette singing karaoke to the William brothers and handed out copies to all my neighbors.
Where are you from? This band is formed in LA, we're all from different places.
What year did the band form? 2012
What's your style of genre? Alternative rock
What inspires you? People who piss me off or betray me.
How often and where do you reherse? As much as we can and on Hollywood
How have you developed since you started with the music? I started this band online with a girl from England, we did everything with loops and shit on GarageBand, now I have real bandmates!
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? No.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Right now we're just looking for a new guitarist, after that yes we'd love to have one.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Yes!!! we want to be on a label mainly so we can be set up on a decent tour.
What made you decide to make this music? For me, it's an expression, being able to vocalize what I feel or want with a song.
What are your songs about? Obsessions, spoiled bitches and wanting revenge on an ex.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? I do and my first bandmate did co-write a lot with me. But we're writing more stuff, so my current bandmates now will be a part of the writing process as well.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Always a different approach with each song
Do you compose in a certain environment? Most our current songs were written in a beat down trashy Las Vegas weekly hotel, truth be told.
Have you done any covers live? No, I've been all about originals for this band. But not suppose to the idea if we can agree on something haha
What language do you sing in? English
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? Oh god, don't ask us that right now, it always varies depending on how nice I've been to my friends that week LOL
What ages are most of your concert attendants? 21+
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? Sticking with the same set since we started the band, we've changed it a few times but mostly the same since whenever someone has left the band they don't want me to keep any song I've written with them.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? Loaded in Hollywood, 1st Sunday every month!
What was your first gig like? Well me and my first bandmate played on Hollywood Blvd every night for 3 months straight. It was good, toughened us up fast and we learned how to get people's attention.
What was your latest gig? Loaded.
Have you had to cancel a gig? Never, I've gone to gigs with the flu.
Where have you played live this year? All over Hollywood.
Where do you plan to gig the coming year? LA and the surrounding areas
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? I give out a handful of shirts at every gig. I'll sell them too if anyone wants to donate. Always appreciated.
Where can people buy your merchandise? Ask us on Facebook and we'll send you something!
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? ITunes is accessible and well I live in LA, we all go to amoeba and buy records we love!
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? I think bands have to rely more on touring and live shows, maybe getting their song in a commercial to keep head above water. Adapt or die ya know?
What do you think of my work? Keep it up! I think you ask great questions and I'm sure will do well in the this business!
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? I have no idea,
maybe our fans have been dying to know these things!
Do you have any role models or idols? Shirley Manson, Patti Smith, Courtney Love, Brody Dalle, Terri Gender Bender..., I love the tough honest REAL people like them... they taught me everything I know!!!
Why do you think that they exist? Because they have to, to keep music alive.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Older bands that are still active.
What have been your biggest obstacles? Keeping a roof over my head.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? If you want something bad enough, you won't make any excuses.
How do you get psyched for a gig? While applying my 3rd coat of eyeliner I drink Champagne and then I get nervous and excited at the same time haha
Do you have any new material? Yes! But we haven't released it yet!
What are your web sites? Facebook.com/LLSband
How can people reach you? Any of the above websites or for professional reasons, [email protected]
What are your plans for the future? To record a full length professional album with a good producer and four.
Do you have something to add? we're Love Like Suicide. Thanks!
