interview with Voltage

How is it that you started playing music? It came kind of naturally. We all had passion for music since we were young so to be honest we don’t know how it came about. It just did.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? Domagoj Bišćan on vocals, Držislav Lekić on lead guitar, Karlo Čačić on rhythm guitar, Ivan Lekić on drums and Hrvoje Knežević on bass guitar. Our age ranges from 24 to 31.
Have you had other previous members? We had one previous member, Luka Lončar who played bass guitar.
Where are you from? We are from Zagreb, Croatia.
What year did the band form? The band officially started playing in 2012 though we started to come together a year earlier.
What's your style of genre? We play stoner/heavy metal though we don’t limit ourselves to any specific genre.
What inspires you? Our inspiration comes from everyday life.
How often and where do you reherse? Once or twice a week at our own rehearsal room.
How have you developed since you started with the music? It’s hard to say. I guess our playing and songwriting skills got a lot better.
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? We play a lot of video games, some of us go to college, some of us work.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We are currently doing all of the booking ourselves and haven’t really thought about a booking agency since we can manage it on our own right now.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? We aren’t actively looking for a label though we are opened for conversation.
What made you decide to make this music? We just play what we think sounds good.
What are your songs about? There isn’t a single theme we revolve around. It can range from personal struggle to thoughts. Depends on what’s going on at that moment when the song was written.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? We all contribute to the songwriting, but usually each instrument is written by the person who plays it, and lyrics are usually written by the vocalist.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Usually, we start with the music.
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? Music is usually written in the rehearsal room but inspiration for the lyrics can come anytime.
What language do you sing in? English.
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? Between 10 and 70 people.
What ages are most of your concert attendants? I guess from 20 to 30 years old.
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? There are some songs we play regularly but it all depends on the place we are playing at.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? No.
What was your first gig like? Drunken and a good time.
What was your latest gig? It was at a club called Attack in Zagreb with bands Flesh and Lord Drunkalot. Lots of booze and great people.
Have you had to cancel a gig? No.
Where have you played live this year? We played at a metal festival called “Dark O Metal Fest”, club Močvara, club Attack just to name a few.
Where do you plan to gig the comming year? We haven’t planned gigs yet.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? Well it would be fair for the artists to be compensated for their work. If people like a band they should support it. There is nothing wrong with downloading music as long as the artist is ok with it.
What do you think of my work? Keep up the good work.
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? We don’t know, but it’s a good opportunity for people to hear about us.
Do you have any role models or idols? We don’t have any role models or idols but bands like Down, Pantera, Kyuss, Black Sabbath etc. have influenced our music.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? It does not matter if the band is active today or not, if the music is good you’ll find inspiration in it.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Play as much live shows as you can. They’re fun, you meet a lot of people and it’s the best way for people to hear about your music.
How do you get psyched for a gig? Drink, talk to people before a show and just have fun.
Do you have any new material? Yes, but we only play the songs live for now.
