interview with Skat Injector

Have any of you played in other bands? I am the vocalist for Spastic Burn Victim and Dgorath.

Spastic Burn Victim play grindcore mixed with harsh noise and jazz, and Dgorath are a black metal grindcore hybrid. Also I create noise music in Prorrheis.

How is it that you started playing music?

It was all a complete accident.

A few friends and I ( Jed Maxwell,  Flod*/// and The Innocence Theif) were sick to death of all these monotonous clone bands rehashing the same old tame music to tired audiences.  Its like they were just playing it safe out of fear of rejection. Everything was so mundane. This rapey old geezer at the bar called Dunwich (who I learnt had previous for scolding someone in a wheelchair) was listening to our conversation and leered over setting us this dare.

He dared us to book a tour pretending to be somebody else, a normal band but then turn up and play absolute fucking shite.

He actually bet us a rare Spazz 7'' we wouldnt do it.

So we thought fuck, it challenge accepted, we'll prove him wrong and it would be fun to kill everyone's ears and fight over a Spazz 7.

So we booked a bunch of these gigs pretending to be a shit defunct emo band from Saint Albans called When I Hear You Smile (what a disgusting name.)

We just turned up with drum machines and set about contact mic'ing up pieces of sheet metal and crap we found strewn about in pub carparks, we screamed, played distorted guitars with only one string by smacking them with iron bars, got fucked up, insulted the audience, at one point nicked all door money and got the police called out.

It was great if we went on stage just after the venue had begun to fill up, we'd clear the place in seconds!  It was absolutely shit, it was fantastic. Unfortunately Dunwich died shortly afterwards so he never did give us that vinyl.

What an absolute cunt how dare he!

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?

Zara Skumshot - Outbursts

Carrie Clitter - Tin Whistle

Flange Magnus - The spoons

Nobless Nick - The computery thing

We're all retired / tarded

Have you had other previous members?

Most of them went missing in Crete

Robert Alln (Halo - Relapse Records)

Lucky Pierre

The innocence thief

Jed Maxwell

Flod*///

Did you make music even when you were young? No, I was an entirely unmusical talentless shit of a child. Although I did enjoy blowing a saxophone reed in peoples faces  for fun which was probably a precursor to the effect my music has on people now.

Where are you from? At the moment we are based in Flidwick upon Tweed,

What year did the band form? 200

What's your style of genre? Speedcore / Splittercore / Noize / experimental

What inspires you?

Grime, Violence, Filth, Drugs

A lot of gore and exploitation cinema

Misanthropy, we don't like humanity on the whole.

There's too many fucking humans plodding about thinking they can do what they want to the planet and consequentially irreparably ruining everything they touch.

They need to be taken down a peg or too.

Self righteous belligerent bullies of their environment without a care for consequence.

Scum

All these music talent shows inspire us to make an antidote to it.

There's no guts, there's no hate. In a world falling down I can't understand that.

Fuck commercial safe music fuck the cunts who make it, I want music dangerous again.

How often and where do you reherse? We've never rehearsed for anything in our lives. Its wrong! We forbid it and have declared a solemn oath against anything like it. Getting good at stuff and practicing is shit. I don't think I've even revised for exams or anything. We're unable to remember basic information anyway so its all a complete waste of time really

How have you developed since you started with the music? Terribly I hope. It would be great to get shitter and shitter as time progresses. By the end of our career we aim to become gibbering drooling retards making sheer garbage without a braincell left betweens us. A bit like Benjamin Button but with music

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? I run Slime City Records which is a label catered towards  speedcore, splittercore, extratone and grindcore. Anything abrasive and noisy.  I'm not a purist, I don't want it to be strictly any one genre. If I like it and its good then why restrict myself. Besides I believe people who create extreme music should stick together and not be divided by definitions and boundaries.

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? A booking agency would be cool yeah!

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Depends on what they can offer. At the moment its nice to have the freedom to release on any label without being anchored to one in particular.

What made you decide to make this music? The initial reason was to make a form of anti music in protest against a stagnant music scene

What are your songs about? A lot of them are like little morbid tales and are often pretty sick/funny. I don't take anything seriously I don't think its possible for me. The latest song I'm doing is based on a true storey about a friend of mine who exposed himself in the cold meats section of a local supermarket.

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Moi

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Music usually comes first. I write lyrics constantly. Depending on the track I'll leaf through a few pages and pick what fits or I'll come up with something entirely new.

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? We compose 'music' in the skat cave. Its a dank pit. No one had ever taken the bins out so we have to clamber over piles of old dustbin liners of rotting take-away crap to get to the equipment. People just draw all over the walls and piss where they want. Its hell The stench of rot and the drugs we take builds the right atmosphere to create.

Have you done any covers live? We have performed a cover version of 'Do Her Fuck Her' by an artist called No Bra

What language do you sing in? I started forgetting all the lyrics since i took a nasty knock to the head so i just make stupid unintelliable noises half the time

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs?

Least attended was a gig we were asked to do when the band first started.

It was situated in this really far out place on the outskirts of London. The promoter  didnt flyer or anything he was just popping Valium after Valium hoping people would just turn up out of thin air. He had a hair band holding his mobile phone together. It was an old Nokia and he was using a comb to poke the numbers in to try and call people to come down. No one could find this place. and basically we just played to the miserable barstaff and this DJ who was dressed like he was going to a fetish club.

It was well shit but we nicked loads of pills off the promoter as penance.

Most attended was Fuck Parade in Berlin 2010. 1000'S of people. It was great.  Massive street party in Berlin full of lorrys with live soundsystems on the back. Everyone was dangerously cunted. We performed on the back of a truck rolling through the streets. There were lots of police holding AK-47S  I was screaming at them wearing a dress they were shaking their heads at me,

What ages are most of your concert attendants? It ranges from say 20 somethings  to 40's and over. There's a pretty broad age range. One man called smeggy Jon comes to watch us in his pyjamas. He's in his 80's and smokes like a fish, he bit someone once so no one talks to him really

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary?

We do a new set each performance as we get bored very easily and have low attention spans. It really varies what the audience gets. Although when we have a fresh release we tend to favour the new songs.

Sometimes we have horrendous spiteful arguments and end up fucking all the songs off and just  wheeling a washing machine in, setting it to a spin cycle full of bricks, contact mic'ing  it all up and running it through a series of distortion pedals. We then wallop the cunt with baseball bats whilst screaming insults at each other. Most of the time that seems to solve band disputes for some reason.  We call it the domestic abuse noisecore

Do you have a regular place you play live often? Not really. London is losing venues fast. We used to play the Grosvenor in London a lot but after all this gentrification with closing venues and so fourth that particular place sadly closed down to make way for housing developments.

What was your first gig like? It was in this squat called the Lord Napier in Hackney Wick London. We were  playing with Alex B of Leech Woman. We were really drunk blasting noise and battering guitars about in pink ski trousers. We smashed the laptop in the crowd,  some dude got a black eye and a load of equipment got kebab all over it.

What was your latest gig?

That would be Napalm Disco last December with our friends Cementimental, Inverted Scrotum, Drugzilla, Yudlugar and Corkscrew 11384453566.

This barman complained about us all. He said we sounded like a skipping CD, mixed with radio interference and a jack hammer. He said it made him physically feel like  killing someone.

Personally I think that's the best review we've ever had.

Have you had to cancel a gig? No, but there was a time when I woke up on the end a drip in hospital and missed the entire gig. If you miss a gig because of hospitalisation or being arrested or killed that doesn't count as sucking. That's rock n roll points

Where have you played live this year? Did a tour of Barnett UK. It was alright.

Where do you plan to gig the comming year?

We're playing Legion of Speedcore in Breda Holland with Pressteror

After that is a circuit of Butlins, Haven and Pontins holiday camps

Then Conjunction (order of the chaos) in Krefeld Germany with Counterstrike, Destest, Yudlugar  and Gabba Front Berlin.

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale?

Around 2010 we made the first Skat Injector 'Lets Do heroin' T-shirts. They were pretty offensive and morally reprehensible so they totally sold out.

We keep getting asked for a repress. Maybe that will happen. Not sure yet.

Where can people buy your merchandise? I sell merchandise on my record label website www.slimecityrecords.com

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days?

I think mp3's sound like shit.

Its kinda weird that people will pay through the nose for a fucking coffee or a beer  in some wanky bar,  but the idea of paying for a track someones written is unthinkable.

Records have so much more clarity, you're holding a product its so much more special, the time and effort thats gone into it. The sound, the presentation the art.  I'd prefer to buy records any day.

What do you think of my work? You send exceedingly good emails

Do you have any role models or idols? No not really people suck,  but if I had to name a few who I like I'd name: Sid Viscous, GG Alln and Seth Putnam. They didnt give a fuck and are a shining example to the rest of us. Although they are all dead.

Why do you think that they exist? I not even sure any of us actually exist. I guess they were products of their environment and I like to think they're angst will live on through future generations

Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Older. GG Alln,  Wendy O Williams Throbbing Gristle. There was something in them that is lesser seen these days,

What have been your biggest obstacles? Staying focused and holding my shit together.

What advice would you give other bands or artists? Don't compromise, stick to your guns and don't expect to get anywhere

How do you get psyched for a gig? I don't need to. I can be as calm as anything but as soon as I'm behind the mic and equipment I switch into nihilist mode.

Do you have any new material?

Loads, there's a few releases that will be coming out later on this year.

There's a split CD coming out on Shit Wank records with Passenger of Shit

A split cassette with Anal Violence on Placenta Recordings

A split cassette with Lizard Drum on Rotten

Death Core Mutilation Productions

A full length vinyl, watch this space.

And multiple free downloads coming to Dtrash records, splattercore records and Splitterkor Rekords

I'm also releasing the second record on my label Slime City.  Its a split 12'' between Pressterror who play extratone and Mulk who play a goregrind Breakcore hybrid.

What are your web sites? This is my sound cloud account https://soundcloud.com/skat-injector

How can people reach you? https://www.facebook.com/SkatInjector/ or [email protected]

What are your plans for the future? There's a load more records to release and a Pressterror / Skat Injector European tour in the pipeline that we are looking forward too.
