interview with Svartsyn

Have any of you played in other bands? 1990-1992 i played in a band called Expurgate. The band recorded 2 demos.
How is it that you started playing music? i learned to play guitar on an old broken acoustic guitar which a friend of mine found in the trash. when we started up Chalice
we could rehears in a school were we also could borrow equipment.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? huldre Hammerman plays drums on the recording. and me Ornias vocals/guitars/bass.
Have you had other previous members? pervious members: Tormentor (chalice, drums), Draugen (drums), Surth (guitar), Kolgrim (bass), Whorth (bass), Baruch (drums), Zoran (bass).
Did you make music even when you were young? no. i began getting involved with making music/playing in a band when i was about 15 years old.
Where are you from? I am from Nynäshamn, Sweden. but nowadays i live abroad.
What year did the band form? The first existing rehearsal tapes dates back to september 1992.
What's your style of genre? Black metal.
What inspires you? sumerian and babylonian mythology. nightmares. the occult.
How often and where do you reherse? we dont rehears. just recording.
How have you developed since you started with the music? realizing how important the song making is since they are hymns/offerings to the dark gods.
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? yes i have. music is music, private is private.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? we are not looking for a booking agency since we dont play live.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that?
No, Svartsyn are at the moment signed to Agonia records.
What made you decide to make this music? we wanted to create music without structure, improvised with inspiration from our inner darkness.
What are your songs about?  my inner spiritual darkness. nightmares
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Me, Ornias.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? depends on how the idea from the song grows. sometimes it can come in fragments
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? at my home.
Have you done any covers live? no.
What language do you sing in? English.
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs?
dont know. we made a tour in 1997 with Behemoth. but i did not count the people coming.
What was your first gig like? i think our first gig was in september 1996. we played songs that eventually ended up on the first album. not that much people.
What was your latest gig? Last time we played live was at Under the black sun festival in the year 2000.

Where have you played live this year? nowhere
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale?
we sell t-shirts, cds / lps, patches.

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? the real fans buy the records. i dont like it. for myself, i have never downloaded music. i always buy the records.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this?
they make less money. and in the end the labels cant sign news band and give them good deals anymore, like paying for the studio etc.
What do you think of my work? i think its good what u are doing. very good.
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business?
i think people who knows us already spends time to read the interview. the people who might find us interesting or never heard or seen us before, will check us out on like youtube or downloading our music for free...
Do you have any role models or idols? when we started out we were influenced by Mayhem, Burzum and Thorns.
Why do you think that they exist? to inspire people in making their own art.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today?
its the same for me. old or new. everything sounds the same anyways. well, nowadays there are a few bands that sticks out.
What have been your biggest obstacles?
my heartoperation.
What advice would you give other bands or artists?
make your songs like they were the final offering to the gods. the song you be remembered for. not spending 5 minutes on a lyric or finnishing up songs in the studio.
How do you get psyched for a gig?
- no. not much.

yes we have. we are going to record sometime during the autum as it looks now.
