interview with CrushBurn

Have any of you played in other bands? Yes, all the members have already played in other groups, Dany have played with "Yrzen" and "Obturated", Thybaut played with "Noise and blackout" Mathieu with "Samarkan" and "Devourer", Eric played with "Split Brain" and "ADM", Vincent with "Spread Damages"

How is it that you started playing music? We all have starting to play with a young passion for metal, and the will to make our own music

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? Dany - drum (25years old) Thybaut -lead guitar (29 years old) Eric - rhythmic guitar (30 years old) Mathieu at the bass have (28 years old) Vincent -vocals (31 years old)

Have you had other previous members? We have changed the line up in 2016, Thybaut have replaced Antoine at the lead guitar, and Mathieu replaced Cédric at the bass

Did you make music even when you were young? yes, everyone started playing music as soon as possible, everyone on their side at the beginning.

Where are you from? We came from France, principally from the north

What year did the band form? Crushburn have been created in 2011 by Eric and Antoine

What's your style of genre? We play a kind of modern Death Metal, enriched by some influences of melo/brutal/trash/groove/hardcore, it's not easy to define it, But Death Metal is the best one

What inspires you? Hum.., the death, I guess, the only thing that really unites us all, and living in an time we do not accept, that we would like to correct, but make us powerless and frustrated. So we have the cathartic need to express it with brutality in our music

How often and where do you reherse? as much as possible, most of the time once a week, sometimes more, sometimes less it 's not easy to gather 5 people each time, depending on the different schedules, it also requires a lot of personal work

How have you developed since you started with the music?

This is done naturally, by work and effort, and maturity does the rest. Mathieu and Thibaut also brought a lot of wealth.

We will not stop progressing and evolve our music So far, everything is going well and the group is gaining experience and musical maturity

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Until now, Dany has mainly organized all our gigs, in collaboration with other local bands. But we could still be interested by a booking agency to expand our perimeter

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? We are going to release our first album soon and are looking for a label, but it's not easy to choose the right one. We are open to proposals

What made you decide to make this music? A common passion for death metal, and for the energy that emerges from it

What are your songs about? Our songs speak of a fantastic fiction, where a purging entity could erase all the ills of a corrupt world. This is of course made reference to various real vices that we mix between fiction and reality, in a universe and a story.

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? everyone takes part in the composition of the music, but mainly Eric, Mathieu and Thibaut. Dany writes his drum parts. Vincent writes the lyrics and devellope the story. All opinions are important it is what brings wealth and cohesion

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? We start by writing the music together, and the atmosphere of this one makes the lyrics come out in relation to the different chosen themes

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? the members compose each one at home in the atmosphere that suits them the most and then we all work together in our local, and by internet

Have you done any covers live? before we played a cover from Amon Amarth- Death in Fire, it really set the public on fire! but we decided to stop the covers and bring the fire by our own music. but its was really fun.

What language do you sing in? Vincent sings in English, to reach more audience, but we are not experts and do our best!

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? We have seen people from all over at our gigs, young or old, from different styles of music but mainly death metal fans of course.

What ages are most of your concert attendants? It looks like 15 to 50 years old, it's very extensive

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We try to vary but we have between 8-16 songs for the moment so it's often the same, until the new album

Do you have a regular place you play live often? We played a lot at the Black Pearl of Laigneville where we did our beginnings, but we try as much as possible to leave our region that we have already explored

What was your first gig like? What was your latest gig? Our last concert was at the Kraken pub of Saint Quentin with Primal age

Have you had to cancel a gig? Where have you played live this year? This year we played in France, Rennes, Tours, Picardie, Aisne, but we slowed the concerts to focus on the album

Where do you plan to gig the comming year?

Our next concert will be in Belgium for the Beast Rising MetalFest, october 13, 2018

We would like to explore other scenes and why not go out of France to see our neighboring countries like Belgium and Germany,

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We tried to sell goodies and t-shirts as early as possible,

To promote our graphic universe and to please those who have loved our music. Vincent is an artist and makes all the visuals for the demo/EP/t-shirt / posters

Beastcreation on FB, instagram or web site

Where can people buy your merchandise? people can contact us for any merchandising order, We do not have a distributor yet but they can order some stuff, on www.crushburn.fr

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days?

Download music is essential before buying an album, the sound is often less good, but it remains a significant support.

It always allows the artists to make themselves known and to promote their music

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? The music industry may have changed but it must evolve with its times. Real fans will continue to buy albums and support the bands they love. As long as the live does not impacted it is the most important. Because the feeling of the live is not the same and the music must be lived

What do you think of my work? We think you are doing a very good job with your work and we thank you for that. Your work is essential for all the bands. Thank you also for paying attention to a local french band like us!

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? Honestly we do not know if it will help us, but if this interview allows some people in your country to read us and listen to us. We will be proud because we appreciate your country and your musical culture

Do you have any role models or idols? Of course we have several models or idols, it might be too long to quote them all,

Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? It depends of the people but both are important, mainly the inspirations come from the old bands but the renewal of the new bands is just as important

What have been your biggest obstacles? The biggest obstacles for a group like us is the culture and society, in France the artists can't live from their musical work, in metal music , it remains of the passion's domain and it is sad considering the investment which is provided. Another obstacle is the media and the money, those who do not have a big wallet still have a lot of trouble to getting known, find a label, or participate in major shows that could make them known.

What advice would you give other bands or artists? Never give up, keep doing what you love, with passion and a lot of work, even if there is not necessarily success in the end, as long as there is pleasure, it will be communicate to the public.

How do you get psyched for a gig? With a good drink! XD a lot of fun to come that give us strength and pleasure!
