How is it that you started playing music? I started when i was a kid, recording in a cassette, and when i was 18, i use to play percussions and to make some dj sets

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
King Abid is my artist name, my real Name is Heythem Tlili,
i’m a Reggae Dancehall Singer, iam alos a dj an percussionist

Did you make music even when you were young? Yes, i used to make a boys band, hiphop style, beat boxin, rap freestyle and Breakdancing

Where are you from? Tunisia, but im in Canada since 2002

What year did the band form? 2011

What's your style of genre? Reggae, Dancehall, Afrobeat, Hiphop, tunisian

What inspires you? Busy Signal, Sizzla Kalonji, Capleton, Beres Hammond, Shabba Ranks...

How often and where do you reherse? We reherse each time we have new stuff, and just before big festivals, it happen in Montreal, Canada

How have you developed since you started with the music? every day, i develop my artist skills, and the proffesionnal skills to, i work with a label, a booker and have my own band

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Yes, i love going to walk in the forrest, Kayac, football, basketball…

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? I already habe a booker in Canada, and i need to have a new booker for the Europe

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Im Already signed in a label : Coyote Records

What made you decide to make this music? The love of the music, the scene, the live band…

What are your songs about? Love, Nature, Introspection, abstract, funny…

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? I compose with some artists and friend who i love to work with, and i write my lirics by myslef

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? with the music

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? Calm environnement, in a studio in the wood and my home sudio

Have you done any covers live? Sometimes we play Running Away / Crazy Baldhead of Bob Marley

What language do you sing in? French, english, spanish, tunisian…

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? Reggae Massives, all ages, families and people who wants to dance…

What ages are most of your concert attendants? between 25 and 35 years..

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? i vary the songs, it depend of the contratc, how many time we play, and when i have new stuff, i play it

Do you have a regular place you play live often? I play every where, in the festivals in Canada

What was your first gig like? in 1999, it was for a Rock concert in Tunisia, i singed my first song in russian language, i took over the stage, and i sing, it was awsome

What was your latest gig? Saturday night (3august) in the Edwin Belanger Kiosque at the Plaines d’Abraham, in Québec city

Have you had to cancel a gig? never

Where have you played live this year? Festival d’été de Québec, Francofolies de Montréal, MAPAS Tenerife…

Where do you plan to gig the comming year? i want to go play my music in Europe, Africa, ans Latin America

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? it’s just normal, i think, internet open a lot of doors, and the artists make their money in the live shows…

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? Yes of course, internet changed the game, and the streaming over the physical records.

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? i dont really expect nothing special, its like a bootle in the sea, i make music only for the love of music, i feel good and free every time im on a stage, and why not go play some shows in Sweeden, i twill be great !!!

Do you have any role models or idols? My Idols, are Bob Marley, King Sellasie

Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? of course, its a big inspiration, to listen to their music or just read about them

What have been your biggest obstacles? the life of an artist is not easy, we need to work a lot for nothing, but i know tht i twill pay one day, we keep working and have the faith in me

What advice would you give other bands or artists? we have one life to live, but we need to be serious, cause its not so easy

How do you get psyched for a gig? Yes im in a good vibe before a concert, i concentrate myself, talk to my musicians, think about the small details
