interview with Sfyrokalymnon

Have any of you played in other bands?
The last 2 years I've played with a couple of bands, from the local scene.
The other members have also played with other bands, the previous years.
How is it that you started playing music?
It all started in 2001 when Dimitris A. (vocals) and me, decided to form a band, to express our music.
We had a big brake (due to military obligations, studies, jobs) and we started again in 2011.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
Dimitris A. - Vocals
Dimitris M. - Drums
Notis K. - Guitars
Manos X. - Guitars
We all have almost the same age, we are in the field 35-40.
Have you had other previous members? Yes, in the begging of the band there was another guy in Guitars.
Did you make music even when you were young? Yes, but it was the year 2001 when we started composing the most.
Where are you from? Ioannina, Greece.
What year did the band form? 2001, but the current line up came up in 2011.
What's your style of genre? Heavy/Thrash Metal, but in our music you can hear a lot of things, such us US Power, Speed Metal, Doom Metal, even Symphonic metal in some songs and some Punk elements in another couple of songs.
What inspires you? There isn't something specific, mostly Fantasy&Sci Fi things, but we also get inspired by things we see around in our society.
How often and where do you reherse? Due to the fact the most of the band members have full time jobs & families, not so often.. But we always try to find some time to rehearse in our
producer's studio.
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Yes, personally I am a Computer/Internet enthousiast.
What made you decide to make this music? It's way to express our inner feelings.
What are your songs about? Most of them are based on Fantasy&Sci Fi books, some other speak about Heavy Metal, and some about our society.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? We all compose music, but mostly Manos&Notis are responsible for the music and Dimitris A. for the lyrics.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? It depends on the song.
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? Mostly when we are alone, personally I think the right time is late at night.
Have you done any covers live? No, but we have recorded a cover for Motorhead's Orgasmatron.
What language do you sing in? English.
What was your first gig like?
It's been quite a long ago, in front of some friends.
Due to lack of time, we didn't have the chance to perform in a bigger audience, so we are mostly a studio band. Maybe this could change, of course..
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? After our debut album was released, in October, 2015. We had CDs & T-shirts, but right now only a few CDs are still available.
Where can people buy your merchandise?
From some local shops in our area and they can contact directly with the band.
You can also hear our album, in Spotify, Itunes, Amazon, Deezer, Napster, etc.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days?
From the one hand is bad, because by buying a record you help a band collect money, so it can record it's music.
From the other hand there is someting good with it, and that is that your music can be heard in the whole world, much easier, than in the previous years.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? A lot. That's way many labels don't give money for CDs, they prefer to sell music in online platforms.
What do you think of my work? It's good to see people like you give the chance to bands like us to be heard outside our country. Thank you for that.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today?
It depends on the age. We have inspiration from bands that come mostly from the 70's, the 80's and the 90's.
Younger people could find inspiration in modern bands too, maybe fewer, but there are bands out today that can inspire people.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Play with their heart, practice a lot, and play not to earn a lot of money, but because you want to share your music with others.
Do you have any new material? Right now we are writing riffs, and soon we'll start turn these ideas into songs.
What are your web sites? You can contact the band via Facebook, Myspace, Reverbnation, Youtube.
What are your plans for the future? Reherseals, a new record and gigs.
Do you have something to add?
Thank you for the interview.
Support your local scene and the underground scene.
