interview with Sjukdom
Have any of you played in other bands? Yes. We have all played in other bands, none worthy of mentioning here. Mordgrim and Sturmsteg played in a band called Buraku until 2019, before joining Sjukdom.
What are your names? / Who plays what?
Natt – Drums
Nekrosis – Guitars
Sturmsteg – Guitars
Mordgrim – Bass
Avsky – Vocals
Have you had other previous members? Yes. A bass player and a guitarist.
Where are you from? Four of us come from Troms, northern Norway, while the fifth guy comes from Kristiansand, in the southern part of Norway.
What year did the band form? 2011
What's your style of genre? Black metal
What inspires you? It varies. I could insert a generic black metal band-answer here, but it wouldn’t describe our accumulated inspiration through almost ten years.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Yes, in fact we are. Our thoughts on that is that it may help us plan new gigs throughout the year.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? No, we are already signed. But maybe when we are about to record our next album. Who knows?
What are your songs about? A good mixture of war, occultism, pestillence, religion etc.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? The band
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? No.
Have you done any covers live? Yes. We did a cover-song of another Norwegian black metal band, once.
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? We don’t have any numbers on that, but least, maybe 50. Most, 150++
What ages are most of your concert attendants? 20+
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We vary the setlist from time to time. We try to combine songs from both our albums, and sometimes add a couple of unreleased songs as well.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? No.
What was your first gig like? Our first gig was together with Taakeferd, in Tromsø. It was quite atmospheric.
What was your latest gig? Iskald metal fest, Alta 2019.
Where have you played live this year? No where.
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? 2011. We sell t shirts, patches, cds and LPs
Where can people buy your merchandise? Sjukdom.net or facebook.com/sjukdomband
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? As long as they pay for it, we don’t mind.
How do you think the music industry has changed because of this? Spotify.
What do you think of my work? It’s nice. Keep it up!
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? We don’t, hehe.
Do you have any role models or idols? No
Why do you think that they exist? They don’t
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Those who are active today. The development in skills has been insane the last ten years of black metal, so there is a lot of inspiration to find in the other, active bands today.
What have been your biggest obstacles? Living in northern Norway.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Clean your rooms.
Do you have any new material? Yes, we have a good amount of new material already. Stay tuned!
What are your web sites? Sjukdom.net and facebook.com/sjukdomband
