intervju med 13 Nails

Have any of you played in other bands? All of us have been in other bands or are currently in other projects.

What are your names? / Who plays what?

Johnny – Vocals/Programming

Nicky Hallows – Guitars/Keyborads

Grey Jones – Guitars/Keyboards

Joshenstein – Bass Guitar/Upright Bass

Steven Lamp - Drums
Have you had other previous members? We have had a revolving door of drummers over the years, but we think we found our solid one with Steven

Where are you from? We are based in Fort Collins, CO USA

What year did the band form? The early stages of the band started in 2013

What's your style of genre? That’s a tough question… sometimes it really depends on the song of ours you are listening too. Currently we just consider ourselves hard rock

What inspires you? Many things inspire each of us, from everyday life, horror movies, other bands/musicians, stories, etc

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We go back and forth about finding a fully booking agency. Some days it seems like a good idea and somedays we are doing just fine on our own. I would imagine with overseas or longer tours a booking agency would be a better option for us.

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? IF the right deal came around I am sure we would take it.

What are your songs about? Our songs vary from Johnny writing horror stories of his own or lyrics inspired from ghost/urban legend stories. A lot of the lyrics on the upcoming self titled album have been inspired from horror movies and our experiences over the last few years.

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Really we all have a part in the composing and lyrics depending on the song. We all bring in certain words or riffs and we expand from there.

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? Each of us typically have our own little spaces at our homes that we compose in and then bring it together in our DIY studio.

Have you done any covers live? We have performed Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell and The Ramones Pet Semetary …. We are also working on a BIG cover for this next round of performances.

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? We have experienced all sorts of attendance as you do as a starting band and then being a seasoned band. We have done the shows with 2 or 3 people at the bar and done the theater shows with 100 + people. We perform the same no matter how many people are there. Everyone deserves a great show.

What ages are most of your concert attendants? We have no idea lol

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We have certain songs like “DEAD GIRLS LIKE TO PARTY” AND “NEON BLACK” that we always play live. Depending on our set list time we vary certain songs in. When we get a new song we try to rotate them in to get the feel for them live. You never get the same show twice 😉

Do you have a regular place you play live often? When we were just playing in our local scene we had a few bars that we frequented but now that we spend time touring everything varies of where we go. We definetly have our favorite cities and places.

What was your first gig like? LOL that was a fun one, due to our image and name we got booked with some death/thrash metal bands and we were the last band to play so people expected us to be much more heavier than we were. However we won them over with groove and fun songs and it ended up being a great time.

What was your latest gig? We were fortunate to be a part of the first Call of Lights event here in Fort Collins, CO back in January . Then unfortunately the pandemic hit and we have just been in the studio working on things.

Where have you played live this year? So far only at the Aggie Theatre here in Ft Collins, CO

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We started selling merch right around the first show we ever played, now we have multiple shirt options, booty shorts, koozies, hats, hoodies, pins, posters and bandanas with much more coming.

Where can people buy your merchandise? You can get our gear at 13nailsband.com or any live event

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? Personally as long as people are listening I am happy

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? It has defiantly made record labels less of a thing, it’s also taken some $$ out of pockets but I feel like bands have adapted to other outlets of income.

What do you think of my work? VERY talented!

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? We are hoping this will help us reach the overseas fans and make new ones

Do you have any role models or idols? We all have a long list of role models or people we look up too… way to many to list

Why do you think that they exist? Because people took the time to listen

Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? We have found inspiration in both, really depending on what we are doing. We are currently working on a song for a horror movie based in the 1980s so we have been jamming some 80s type stuff to find the 13 Nails 80s sound lol

What have been your biggest obstacles? Really its only been the look past the initial image and see we are just a fun loving party band that likes horror lol

What advice would you give other bands or artists? KEEP FUCKING MAKING ART

Do you have any new material? We are currently working a new album due out this fall and also will be releasing some rare songs that aren’t full album material
